Dual Frequency, Channel, Operation Internal AP

Sat May 17, 2014 9:55 pm

Hello,

I`m looking to put together an internal 802.11n Mikrotik AP, which has:

• Dual frequency (2.4GHZ & 5GHZ - the easy bit?)
• 2 tx x 2 rx x 2 sd capability

and for it to be able to operate on both frequencies simultaneously

I read in newsletter 55 "Now, for example, you can take BaseBox2, install R11e-5HnD mini-PCI express wireless card and add two MMCX-RPSMA pigtails to have Dual-Band 2X2 MIMO 2.4/5GHz Outdoor Access point, that supports both frequencies at the same time."

However it says “supports both frequencies at the same time” not necessarily operate both at the same time.

Any thoughts on whether what I hope to do is actually possible?

Based on newsletter 55, I`ve so far selected:
R11e-5HnD x 1
RB912UAG-2HPnD x 1
ACSWIM x 2
StationBox InSpot x 1

Perhaps I`m better, due to excellent price point having separate APs one for 2.4 and one for 5. However the question I then have is can we load balance capable clients across both? Would this occur anyway with above solution?

Kind Regards

Aidan Venn

With all wireless products that tx/rx on multiple bands at the same time, there must be at least two wireless cards. Each wireless cards needs to be configured separately. Even when you do see it in product xyz, there are multiple wireless cards.
