v6.14 released

Mon Jun 09, 2014 3:22 pm

Some good changes here, including the new "ip cloud" menu, and general release of CAPsMAN:

What's new in 6.14 (2014-Jun-06 15:34):
*) sntp - 'mode' now is a read-only property, it is set to broadcast if no
server ip address is specified;
*) smb - fixed some SMB1 errors;
*) wireless-fp package is now included in routeros one (disabled by default);
*) webfig - fixed quickset, it didn't work with disabled wireless pacakge;
*) sstp - fixed problem where session was closed every 2min;
*) pptp,l2tp,pppoe - fixed problem where some of the static bindings
become dynamic interfaces;
*) eoip - lowered default MTU to avoid IP packet fragmentation;
*) eoip - added clamp-tcp-mss setting with default=yes for new tunnels to avoid
IP packet fragmentation;
*) fixed - bridge could sometimes get added without ~running~ flag;
*) fixed - simple queues could sometimes crash router;
*) fixed - simple queue stats freeze (empty winbox queue window);
*) ssh server - allow none cipher;
*) proxy - added 'anonymous' option which will skip adding X-* and Via headers;
*) dhcp server - added option use-framed-as-classless and
added support for DHCP-Classless-Static-Route RADIUS attribute;
*) quickset - fixed problem where address mode selection did not work in
bridge mode;
*) ipv6 address - fixed problem where changing advertise lost ipv6 connected route;
If you already run some RouterOS v6.x version, simply click “Check for updates” in QuickSet, Webfig or Winbox packages menu.

Does this resolve all the bugs reported with CRS and 6.13?

Re: v6.14 released

Well, nice. But I'd rather wait a bit longer with updating my network to 6.14...
I was just in the process of updating my network to 6.13, that seems to be pretty stable. I have some 85% done.

But now with the new 6.14 I can't use the winbox
/sys
packages
'check For Updates'
Download & Upgrade

sequence any more because it would now download 6.14. which I don't want ... yet.

Can there not an option build in winbox so I can actually pick the version from the server to download & upgrade? So I can use the same procedure but than in the last phase select a previous version to download and install? They are all still on MT's servers I presume. Shouldn't be hard to do?

For the rest of the network not updated to 6.13 yet I now have to fall back on the manual ftp transfer of upgrade packages, which in my experience takes more time but is also a bit more prone to failures.....

I really like the wireless-fp package. I had one device that would not even see my AP. Now works fine.
Speeds are much better too.

Here's how my USB 3G dongle (Huawei E169) is identified, but it seems to me that it works properly (my backup link does not exceed 512Kbps) - on RB751U-2HnD.

Some good changes here, including the new "ip cloud" menu
What exactly is the point of "ip cloud" when you cannot remember your dns name?

I can't seem to find the "wireless-fp" package - am I missing something here?
  • downloaded all_packages-mipsbe-6.14.zip
  • used FTP to upload all .npk files to SXT G-5HPnD-SA r2
  • reboot to install packages with /sys reboot
  • updated bootloader with /sys routerboard upgrade
  • rebooted again with /sys reset-config skip-backup=yes
/sys package pr produces this:

Why upgrading device with all package just use upgrade package http://download2.mikrotik.com/routeros/ ... e-6.14.npk download upgrade and you can find regular end fp wireless package.
I can't seem to find the "wireless-fp" package - am I missing something here?
  • downloaded all_packages-mipsbe-6.14.zip

I can't seem to find the "wireless-fp" package - am I missing something here?

Read changelog:
*) wireless-fp package is now included in routeros one (disabled by default);

I have strange problem since 6.9 (also in 6.13, 6.14)

If more than 3000 simple queues on CCR1016 - www graphing does not work.
If I delete some queues... for example there will be 2990 - www graphing is working.

Could you fix that?

I`ve check this on other CCR - 1036, the same problem. Obviously software problem.

Why upgrading device with all package just use upgrade package http://download2.mikrotik.com/routeros/ ... e-6.14.npk download upgrade and you can find regular end fp wireless package.
I use the "all packages" file because as it comes with "all features including less used ones" - in my case this is the NTP server feature. I upload them all the RouterBOARD and then uninstall packages I don't need.

I guess I don't really understand what this actually means. So there's some extra "routeros" package that's not in "all packages" (despite the name)?

So I uploaded the "upgrade" package but now the list looks like this:

I can see "wireless-fp" now but I have duplicate packages of "ppp", "dhcp", etc... :?:
Also I see the "routeros-mipsbe" package has appeared - what does it even do?

I'm just so confused...

Some good changes here, including the new "ip cloud" menu
What exactly is the point of "ip cloud" when you cannot remember your dns name?
If you have your own domain, just create cname records that point to your serial number dynamic dns records hosted by mikrotik.

DHCPv6 client still doesn't update DNS servers correctly, when lease is renewed:

Definitely, something is wrong with your packages. Try to downgrade, upgrade, uninstall packages, NetInstall...

You can download it separately http://download2.mikrotik.com/routeros/ ... mipsbe.npk

Please add on winbox (and webfig?) missing functionalities like:
clamp-tcp-mss
web-proxy anonymous
disable-runnin-check
cable-test
reset-mac-address

and all the other options/functions presents on CLI and not on winbox or webfig.

Also add the possibility on CLI to save always the output of a command to a file, like "ping" or better add the "do={}" like flood ping

Thanks

I've got a web server set up with various tools for my customers and myself. I keep a manual mirror of most ROS versions since 3.24 or so. I have a txt file with a quick copy and paste command line that I can put into terminal/telnet/ssh and it will download, then just tell it to reboot. I have a much higher success rate than over FTP or through Winbox itself.

Some good changes here, including the new "ip cloud" menu
What exactly is the point of "ip cloud" when you cannot remember your dns name?
Just bookmark it.

rextended cable-test is here - open ethernet interface details on device that supports that. There on the right side (with extra buttons) is cable test button.

The point of the cloud DNS name is not to remember it, but to solve a changing IP address problem. You can just bookmark this DNS name that you received.
Normis, any chance to have IP Cloud for x86?
The DNS is assigned to valid serial numbers, for X86, we have no way of reliably identify the hardware.

Hi, I've just upgrade routerOS to version 6.14 and after that I can't see Hotspot menu'.
The package "Hotspot" is still inside and upgraded.
Is that menu move or is there some problem?

Thanks for any helps

Could you fix that?

I`ve check this on other CCR - 1036, the same problem. Obviously software problem.
for 3000 queues, I suggest using the SNMP for graphs.

I can see "wireless-fp" now but I have duplicate packages of "ppp", "dhcp", etc... :?:
Also I see the "routeros-mipsbe" package has appeared - what does it even do?

I'm just so confused...
This is how it looks on my RB2011 after upgrade:

winbox: SNTP client -> unicast :) not working ... ?!?
For SNTP you only have to set up an NTP server addressand it will switch to unicast mode for you. If no addresses are set SNTP will use broadcast mode, that does not require any configuration adjustments other than to enable it.

also from changelog:
*) sntp - 'mode' now is a read-only property, it is set to broadcast if no
server ip address is specified;

Except when you receive a dynamic NTP server from DHCP, it will NOT switch to unicast mode, and it just doesnt work - Ticket#2014060966000636

Re: v6.14 released

Tue Jun 10, 2014 7:24 pm

Had an issue with 3 of the 4 devices I upgraded to 6.14 from 5.26.

All of them were mipsbe devices, and after upgrading they did not reconnect. Connecting locally to the ethernet interface showed no wireless interfaces listed. A firmware upgrade had to be completed prior to the wireless interfaces being displayed.

I would advise against an over the air upgrade, this seems to have effected only devices upgrading from 5.x, I'll test further to confirm.

The reason I suspect 5.x is the 4th device I upgraded was MIPSBE and running 6.12. It came back online fine after the upgrade with all interfaces.

still getting tx drops on VLAN where we run ospf+mpls

The only way to cure it is to change the queue to ethernet default.

When will it work in regular way using the default queue?????

I have strange problem since 6.9 (also in 6.13, 6.14)

If more than 3000 simple queues on CCR1016 - www graphing does not work.

I`ve check this on other CCR - 1036, the same problem. Obviously software problem.

I think come back old bug with queues. I don't remember with version this problem was (5.X or 4.X).
I write how retest this problem:

1. Mangle packets in firewall.
2. Create example simple queues
                               |-serviceA1
                               |-serviceA2
         |-----group1-service--|-serviceA3
         |
         |
main-----|
         |
         |
         |-----group2-service--|-serviceB1
                               |-serviceB2
                               |-serviceB3

3. In winbox check simple queues.
3.1. Works queues for serviceAX from group1-service.
3.2 Don't works queues for serviceBX from group2-service.
4. In winbox move group2-service above group1-service.
4.1. Starting works queues for serviceBX from group2-service.
4.2. Stopping works queues for serviceAX from group1-service.

Of course in points 3.2 , 4.2 don't work graphs.

Please check it.

Upgrading from 5.x to 6.14 will remove wireless config so DON'T! :shock:

If you want you can upgrade to 6.13 AND THEN to 6.14, that works fine. 8)

Tried upgrade from 5.11 to 6.14 on RB411AH as a test for this bug.
After first reboot there were no wireless interfaces at all (probably missing wireless package,
I didn't look in system packages at the time) and after second reboot (without firmware upgrade, just reboot)
wireless interface was there again but it had been reseted to defaults and disabled.
This is starting to looks like serious issue.

Re: v6.14 released

I confirm this:

netsinstall routeros-mipsbe-5.26.npk (with netinstall 6.14 or other version not matter)
on SXT Lite5 (or another device not matter)

After reboot, drag routeros-mipsle-6.14.npk

reboot.

the wireless package is installed but no "/interface wireless" or wireless on winbox appear

SOLUTION: on CLI or Winbox enable wireless-fp and reboot.

on reboot wireless-fp are active, and wireless menu come back, without any config.

This is repeatable.

Tested also on 5.25. The only way to not forget wireless are to use 6.7, 6.10 or 6.13 to upgrade, i do not have at the moment other version to try.

Also install 6.13, 6.10 or 6.7 on 5.25/26 do not lose the config or wireless package.

BUG ON 6.14 ONLY: INSTALL 6.14 ON 5.x VERSION DISABLE WIRELESS PACKAGE AND CLEAN ALL THE WIRELESS CONFIG.

I HAVE UPDATED MORE THAN 40 DEVICES, AP AND PTP, FROM 6.10 TO 6.14 AND I HAVE NOT ONE SINGLE PROBLEM. The only two problem are the first two CPE I have upgraded from 5.25 / 5.26 to 6.14
(but my pppoe-server with mrru 1614 and MPPE encryption, over EoIP, still on 6.7 because routerboard still crash with kernel failure on 6.8+, another problem with two or more tickets open but never solved.)

In winbox, one can not set the SNTP servers for the SNTP client.
I use broadcast mode anyway, but the server fields are read-only.

*) sntp - 'mode' now is a read-only property, it is set to broadcast if no
server ip address is specified;

mmm.....

you can set it from cli, after that winbox unlock the fileds.

SECONDARY BUG ON 6.14 ONLY: IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SET THE SNTP SERVER(S) ON WINBOX IF IS SET TO THE DEFAULT 0.0.0.0
Secondary because you can set it on CLI and this unlock the fileds on Winbox.

NTP separate package not affected.

Upgraded RB411AH from 5.25 to 6.14. No problems.

I downloaded all packages and installed the packages that I needed, including the wireless package. Reboot....tada.

I assume the problem is with the upgrade package.

I used update package once very long time ago and had problems then with selective removing of its parts. Dince then there is only one way for me: download all packages and copy-paste selected, reboot. This worked everytimes and I have version archive for the case I decide to install some older version. Not tried with 6.14 yet.

It looks like there can be issues with DHCP and Wireless packages after upgrade from v5 to v6.14. We are working on a fix now.
What you might see is that DHCP and Wireless menus are gone after upgrade. After a reboot, the menus appear, but the config is lost. Reconfiguration is needed. We will try to release a fix soon.

Thanks,
after some test, the problem is on the wireless-fp package.
Upgrading from 5.25 or 5.26 to 6.14 by single packages, the same as contained in routeros-xxxx-6.14.npk omit wireless-fp, this never happen.

And again thanks because wireless-fp package on 23,5Km link NV2 CH0+1 H/V 20+20 has lowered the latency of 4/5ms also on high traffic...

(RB433AH + SR71-15 ---> RB433AH+R52Hn, and on the future RB912UAG-5HPnD + R11e-5HnD on both side)

Well done.

The ip cloud is a nice feature, but trickier than I would have expected. It would be nice if in the future the user can specify it's own domain name so that it can be remembered.

Some good changes here, including the new "ip cloud" menu
What exactly is the point of "ip cloud" when you cannot remember your dns name?
If you have your own domain, just create cname records that point to your serial number dynamic dns records hosted by mikrotik.
If I have my own doman than I would not need this useless feature since I would then have script which would check for IP changes and update my domain records.

Good luck scripting this your own way.

This feature is great since you click one button, create one CNAME record in your DNS, and you get functioning DynDNS.

Your way, you would have to script all this on RouterOS, then on BIND, create an interface for RouterOS to talk to BIND somehow, secure it all, and many other things.
Not to mention, if you domain in hosted somewhere, you dont even have control over BIND, cant script, etc, etc...

The IP>Cloud functionality is a great addition.

The easy way :)

Wasted 2 minutes to register free domain on ChangeIP (or DynDNS) and have "A record" I can remember.

Verify Server Certificate on SSTP doesn't work

6.14 SSTP client to 5.26 SSTP server doesn't work.
SSTP client log: handsharke failed (6)
SSTP server log: tls shutdown

6.13 SSTP client to 5.26 SSTP server works.

Why not use the License's "Software-ID" instead? It's available on all RouterOS platforms, including x86, it has a DNS compatible alphabet, and it's supposedly unique for each distinct device, isn't it?

Hi,

I had the same issues with upgradeing 5.x -> 6.14, BUT I also had this issue from 6.13 -> 6.14 on one device out of 200. I'm frigthened to upgrade the rest of the 100 devices ...

the positive sides: nstreme is extremly fast with the wireless-fp package, it also speeds up nv2 links (but not all). still no help on heavily interfered sectors.

thanks from vienna

I have strange problem since 6.9 (also in 6.13, 6.14)

If more than 3000 simple queues on CCR1016 - www graphing does not work.
If I delete some queues... for example there will be 2990 - www graphing is working.

Could you fix that?

I`ve check this on other CCR - 1036, the same problem. Obviously software problem.
for 3000 queues, I suggest using the SNMP for graphs.
Is there any way to solve this?
When trying opening MT graphing it takes about 30-40 sec. After that - only Int, res, graphs are visible.

you find the solution on 6.13 topic, or netinstall and import again the config by .rsc (not .backup)

Probably not necessarily a 6.14 issue, but have updated a rb2011UAS from 5.24 to 6.14 which used an Atheros USB adapter (AR9271 chipset).
After upgrade, the adapter is not recognized anymore. Tried it on a x86 6.14 router and no go either.
Did Mikrotik remove the Atheros USB aliases/drivers for USB dongles in 6.x ?

Fixing bugs is MUCH MORE important to your CORE user community, then adding useless things like Torrent client.

If there were no long standing bugs in RouterOS, then I'm all for it, add all the functionality you want.
But PLEASE fix serious bugs and needed features in IPv6, IPSec, PPPoE and other areas before doing that.

I mean, you want to add a Torrent client, but not client tools for VMWare or HyperV? How does that make sense?
With VMWare client tools and VXLAN support for example, MikroTik could break into a whole new network market ... what will a Torrent Client accomplish?

End users have hunder possible vendors to choose from, which are much easier to use and much more feature rich for their market, and you want to compete there?
You have a good and serious position in professional-grade networking, why not strengten and improve your position there?

Your core community and your core target market is ISPs, and now Enterprise and Carriers with CCRs. Features needed for this core community/market should receive priority, and fixing bugs should receive priority.
This are the things that should be important to you, not adding a Torrent Client for home users, which are a minor percentage of your users.

With 2 pppoe connections have a bug since 6.13.
ECMP balancing

ip firewall nat add action=masquerade chain=srcnat src-address=localnet /
ip route add distance=1 gateway=inet1 routing-mark=wan1
add distance=1 gateway=inet2 routing-mark=wan2
add distance=1 gateway=inet1,inet1,inet1,inet2

Only active second route.
Before 6.13 all work.

If you create tunnel with Winbox the MTU is 1500.

Agreed with the torrents remarks. If MikroTik would seriously introduce a torrent client other then maybe downloading updates (also not quite worth the effort) it would seriously make me think about the product twice. :(

Buy some kind of ARM (Android) stick and put linux on it, a Asus/HP Chromebox or whatever other cheap hardware and attach an USB disk if you want a torrent client, but putting one in a router is horrible idea....

So I agree, work on fixing bugs and improving and providing useful features towards what the devices are intended for. Not useless gimmick crap other consumer routers might come up with.

Re: v6.14 released

I agree about fixing/working on more important things. There are no IPv6 filters for OSPF. No "set priority" in IPv6 mangle. IPv6 native loopbacks (/128) are not propagated correctly within OSPF. There is no BGP IPv6 recursive lookup, no conntrackd-like to achieve firewall HA among multiple/redundant devices, routing crashes when a PPPoE client reconnects with an IP address included into a BGP aggregated net, (next one is tested only on CCR1009) after about one day, flash becomes read-only (fixed at reboot, for anoter ~24 hours), weird behaviour when two identical ip addresses are used inside two separate VRFs, and a few more ones.

It would be interesting to fix/include these options before adding exotic functionality.

We're running out of IPv4 addresses, so having a stable and full featured IPv6 is becoming a must.

If you have resources to work on other new features (like the torrent client) that's welcome, but please keep an eye on those topics...

[edit: fixed a few typos]

Hello, this is my quick report.

After upgrading RB433AH to ROS 6.14, all wlan cards disabled and restarted to default, after first boot PPP and some other packages were missing from Winbox menu, after second reboot they come back.

Second, after upgrading RB2011LS, missing IP>DHCP package, after second reboot RB bricked, I had to manually reset it with Reset button.

Note: Upgrading from RouterOS v5 to v6.14 can cause configuration loss for DHCP and Wireless. Please refrain from upgrading your v5 installation until a fixed version has been released

I'm testing 6.15 "last-before-release" now.

One moment and I check if the wireless/dhcp problem and the SNTP field are fixed...

SNTP still not working on winbox: both server fields readonly, must be first set on terminal to unlock.
Glitch: removing the possibility to specify broadcast or unicast, the fields still not active.

about user-manager profile limitation still not working: I know this are secondary from release one 6.15 then upgrade correctly 5.x

SNTP fixed too. We didn't put the correct version up yet
User Manager will not be fixed in v6.15

SOLVED: 6.15 (2014/06/12 09:51:16) DO NOT CORRUPT WIRELESS OR DHCP CONFIGURATION AFTER DIRECT UPGRADE FROM 5.25 OR 5.26 (and I think all the other 5.x versions)
using drag & reboot routeros-xxxxxx-6.15.npk package

is this your sntp remake?

This is already (!) fixed on outcoming 6.15, do not post more complain about this.

-1 karma for your hurting method of writing. [The tone used on the post is very hurting.]
