Feature request: add Encryption to WiFi scan

Sat Jun 14, 2014 6:45 pm

Hi,

I think that WiFi scan should show Encryption of each network. I think it's just small detail, but it can help.

Thanks

Agreed. Everything what could be known from wifi signal or about it should be shown.

It already shows encryption status (yes/no, not the standard used) in the first column - letter P means protected(?).

Unfortunately it can be sorted/filtered by this column.

Perfect functionality will be Filtering/Sorting feature using all fields available:
Encryption, Signal, Noise, S/N and so on.

I use Metal 2SHPn on my sail boat (installed on top of mast /17m/ with 10dB Omni) to connect to APs while in marina/anchorage.
Very often can see nearly 100 networks, looking for usable one takes time without filtering option.

UBNT Bullet 2HP I also use allows sorting by encryption and shows standard used (WPA/WPA2 and so on) like this:

Agreed.

Scan should show all possible information it should also allow filtering.
It already shows Encryption status (first column, letter P means Protected?) anyway it can be used for sorting or filtered.

I use Metal 2SHPn on my sail boat to access free networks from anchorage or marina. With 10dB Omni antena on 17 meters above water I often see 50+ networks and it takes some time to choose the best one.

I also use UBNT Bulet 2HP and it has better "Site Survey" interface like this:

The perfect one should allow customisation of columns displayed and include all possible details (encryption standard, channel, 802.11 standard used (is it possible?) with all fields sortable.

What will be even better: custom filter to hide unwanted networks (in my case protected and weak networks).

+1 for listing the type of Wireless Security used when running a Scan. While the "P" shows you that Security (or "privacy") is being used, it would be nice to know what type of Security (wep, WPA, WPA2 ect..).

Just about every other type of scanner (or scan) provides this info in detail (even a basic Windows 7 OS wifi scan).

Thanks and looking forward to testing ROS 7 whenever MT feels their internal version is ready (no rush, ros6 has been and is great)
