RB260GSP is it giga POE OUT?

Fri Jun 27, 2014 10:30 pm

Does RB260GSP support Giga PoE OUT or just when u use PoE OUT its limited to 100mbit? if not when Mikrotik have plan to make one?

between mikrotik board, can reach 1Gb, i do not have third party gigabit PoE devices to test.

dadaniel tnx but I know its a gigabit switch
I have not pursued 260GSP yet to make a test :), there is no info on mikrotik web about PoE out gigabit support? any info is welcomed.

IMHO it's not tehnically dificult to add PoE to gigabit port so it will be silly, if MT limit port to 100mbit when using PoE.
But because it's not 802.3af or at standart PoE, it can't be used for IP cams or IP phones. It can only supply another (MT) Gigabit (and 100Mbit) device with passive PoE input.

Lakis: Since you don't know exactly what dadaniel showed you (you don't have that switch), let me translate:

Port is enabled, link active, autonegotiation on, 1Gb, full duplex, flow control on, with POE output draining 170mA corresponding to a power of 2.35W.
So yes, the RB260GSP is capable of supplying POE on gigabit connections, as shown in the picture.

BETWEEN MIKROTIK DEVICES...
As far as we know, yes. But that's not necessary the absolute truth.
Gigabit passive injectors use a transformer on the data pins to allow power and data to share the cable and is typically compatible with 802.3af Mode A.
So there is a possibility that these switches could power such a 802.3af device.
I don't have such devices, but i would really try it with e.g. a Ubiquity Unifi UAP-AC or UAP-PRO, which support 802.3af and passive PoE with gigabit speeds.

I say - MT switch or router Gigabit PoE output not compatible with 802.3af Mode A.
802.3af standard requires 48V supply.
It can be used to power 802.3af device if device accepts 24V voltage. And it will be non standard usage, without any warranties and can be non working or unstable.

This is the reason because I continue to write:

BETWEEN MIKROTIK DEVICES...

MikroTik develope it's own PoE standard for Gigabit.

For example LigoWave are not compatible with this PoE.
(yes I have one LigoWave PTP 5 Unity)

On "Fiber" side with it's own PoE work @ 1G with RB1100, but on remote side, nor mikrotik PoE, nor other, power the device and make 1G link, only 100M (because on other side are 48V battey pack, not 230V, and inverte consume too much power...).

LigoWave is like MikroTik, go to 1G with only it's own PoE

MikroTik develope it's own PoE standard for Gigabit.
I don't know surely, what's inside MT gigabit PoE injector (the white one), but IMHO, the standart is the same passive Gigabit PoE, but the voltage isn't.
If MT expand supply voltages
PoE: 8-30V DC on Ether1 (Non 802.3af). Jack: 8-30V DC
to 48 Volts, it will be compatible with third party passive PoE injectors and devices (802.3af devices too).
The main difference between passive and 802.3af is that af device requires power from injector, but passive gives always. This mean, 802.3af injector newer gives power to non 802.3af device like MT. Some fool-proof feature.

I found the nice (to clone) passive gigabit PoE injector, I think every MT (and UBNT) (gigabit or not) should work with it, if powered with 24V; and any 802.3af/at device, if powered with 48V.
Maybe in general there isn't another easy and correct way to power over data lines any voltage.

Yes, it's hard to mention another gigabit device, that can work with 24V passive PoE..
But maybe there is a device, that can power both 24 and 48V devices- Edge Router PoE or TOUGHSwitch PoE PRO? I try to find some details about it.

Sry never sow that exactly, I never tried MT switch dadaniel image status link is unknown for me - yes fanny for me :) showing exactly autonegotiation on 1Gb, full duplex tnx anyway

rextended sorry Ive been pushing this so far but Mikrotik RB260GSP gbit poe out is only compatible "BETWEEN MIKROTIK DEVICES"? Have u ever made a test with different hardware?

If this is the Ligo PoE supply, then Ligo can't be powered by MT, because it requires 802.3at power supply= 48V and maybe over all four data pairs not only two like MT
What other PoE have You tried?
I think, Ligo should work with passive gigabit PoE injector mentioned in my previous post, it has DC input so You don't need 230V inverter too.. OR just open the original Ligo PoE and connect 48V DC to PCB directly without using SMPS converter part.

That is not true RB260GSP is compatible with almost every PoE device that support passive 24 V PoE, not just only MT devices.Tested many times with UBNT devices...

The discussion was about 260GSP being able to provide PoE AND gigabit link at the same time.
Have you tried an Unifi UAP-AC or UAP-PRO and obtained a gigabit link speed?

Gbit poe to ubnt ac rockets and powerbeam ac's? Need to know if that works! Don't want to have to use netonix! Can't use toughswitch they just can't do a good throughput!
