v6.16 RC test release now includes 802.11ac support

Wed Jul 09, 2014 1:19 pm

We are happy to announce 802.11ac support in RouterOS. Before we make this a general release, we would like to give you, the forum users, the ability to test it first.
802.11ac support is enabled for QCA9880/9882 rev2 (-BR4A) wireless chipsets, and wireless-fp package must be used. It is included in the general combined package, no separate downoad necessary

Other changes:
What's new in 6.16 (2014-Jul-17 13:12):

*) winbox - fixed random disconnection over encrypted tunnels;
*) l2tp, pptp, pppoe - fixed possible packet corruption when encryption was enabled;
*) ovpn - fixed ethernet mode;
*) certificates - use SHA256 for fingerprinting;
*) ipsec - fix AH proposal and problem when sometimes policy was not generated;
*) snmp - support AES encryption (rfc3826);
*) l2tp server: added option to enable IPsec automatically;
*) poe-out: added power-cycle-ping and power-cycle-interval settings;
*) gps - increased retry duration to 30 seconds;
*) time - on routerboards, current time is saved in configuration on reboot
and on clock adjustment, and is used to set initial time after reboot;
*) sntp - disabling/enabling client was causing dynamic-servers to be ignored
(bug introduced in 6.14);
*) CCR - fixed rare file system corruption when none
of configuration could be changed or some of it disappeared;
*) ipsec - allow multiple encryption algorithms per peer;
*) email - support tls only connections;
*) smb - fixed usb share issues after reboot
*) snmp - fix v3 protocol time window checks;
*) updated timezone information;
*) quickset - added VPN settings for HomeAP mode;
*) latency improvements on CCR devices;

Do you support only the v2 cards (-AR4A ?) and not the v1 cards (-AR1A?), like many other AC implementations?

Hi,

i updated my RB493G (running as AP) from 6.15 and got a reboot loop. On the serial console i see no error, just repeating boot/login prompt and a reboot around 5-10 sec after the boot . No chance to get a supout :/

MikroTik 6.16rc17
mtr17 Login:

RouterBOOT booter 3.10

RouterBoard 493G

CPU frequency: 680 MHz
Memory size: 256 MiB
NAND size: 128 MiB
NAND partitions: 2

Press any key within 5 seconds to enter setup.

Update: ok was able to login fast enough and get this:

01:00:43 system,info,account user xxx logged in via local

[xxx@mtr17] /log>
echo: system,error,critical System rebooted because of kernel failure

It looks like a Ethernet issue, as soon as i plug in Ethernet, the kernel crashes after short moment after the auto Negotiation. Wireless connection is ok.

I was able to get the autosupout file and made a Ticket to MT, id is: Ticket#2014070966000634

Looking stable and all working OK on first glance on PPC (RB1100AHx2).
Date/Time save feature works nicely. Tnx.

Tested on RB912G-2HnD and 802.11ac QCA9880 mini-pcie card. Seems works well - 702 mbps udp between 2 of these.

Stable on bandwith test 1 hour.

Good job.

On CRS-125-24G-1S firmware 6.16rc18 kills the primary bootloader (3.17 - no message on the serial console, no access, nothing on the display, just the switch chip working and usr1 LED blinking fast).
It starts up correctly with the backup(3.08) and is working.

Reverted to 6.15 and still no boot with the primary. After rewriting the primary bootloader from 6.15 (3.16) everything is back to normal.

I think that giving the opportunity to test the latest RC a few days before publishing a new release is a great idea! People can test the system on non critical devices...

I tested 6.16rc18 on following devices:

CCR-1009-8G-1S-1S+
RB493G
x86

So far no issues.

*) l2tp server: added option to enable IPsec automatically;

Tested this on CCR and x86:
At first, i expected that it forces the client to do ipsec for a successfull connection, but it looks like, it just creates a peer entry for l2tp/ipsec.

Sadly can't find any Minipci based card with QCA9880/9882 Chipset, only Minipci-e

Isn't time to have demo3.mt.lv
with some new board as RB953GS-5HnT + 802.11AC card
with some continuous traffic

by the way is there will have antennas with 3 polarisations for 3 chain cards
for example mANT30 x3

111111, you are 100% correct. We are preparing new demo routers, instead of current ones with AC cards and links. Thank you very much for the interest.

10x for understand maby all products must have sub-domains
ex RB953GS-5HnT.mt.lv
and connected each other by all possible scenarios
ex. MESH, bridge, BGP, OSPF, GSM network etc.

Hi Engitech , would you mind sharing how many channels and what type of setup as well as wireless mode was being used ? Those results are very intriguing.

honzam, I really don't know, actually, if SXT is .ac compatible, that's why I'm asking for...

Could you please help how to identify its hardware, if it supports?

I will try to post more information this week-end - no time now. But the setup was very basic. I do it only to see if the card that i have were compatible with new drivers. 3 channels used, omni mikrotik pigtail antenna , on a desk about 1 meter of distance - wifi signal registration indicated 1333Mb/sec.

You need SXTG-5HacD. The AC is in the name of product. Actualy is in NOT on market.

People can not login, the hotspot said "no user". Only I can do is just restart.

BTW,

Looking forward to have ovpn with IPV6 tunnel in the new version. (ipv4 is not stable, v6 llink is much better then v4) :)

Hi,

I updated my RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN with routeros-mipsbe-6.16rc18.npk and found 1 problem. When i reboot the router hangs and LCD display is blank (white). Solution is to hardware reset, then it's ok ? Any ideas?

Yep, via WinBox -> System -> Packages -> drag and drop .npk file -> reboot.

EDIT: Tried to upgrade it again with routeros-mipsbe-6.16.npk and problem is gone. :)

RB912UAG-2HPnD using Compex WLE900VX advertised as Atheros QCA9880 v2. I do get wlan2 and can connect to it but rx rate limited to 6Mb and not supported to change tx power to "card rates". btest client shows tx at 5Mb and rx getting just over 200Mb udp throughput going from laptop through rb912 to ccr1009.

from terminal the information from "interface wireless print":

1 R name="wlan2" mtu=1500 mac-address="redacted" arp=enabled
interface-type=Atheros AR9888 mode=ap-bridge ssid="redacted"
frequency=auto band=5ghz-onlyac channel-width=20/40/80mhz-eCee
scan-list=default wireless-protocol=any vlan-mode=no-tag vlan-id=1
wds-mode=disabled wds-default-bridge=none wds-ignore-ssid=no
bridge-mode=enabled default-authentication=yes default-forwarding=yes
default-ap-tx-limit=0 default-client-tx-limit=0 hide-ssid=no
security-profile=default compression=no

could be this card not fully supported but I share my experience so far

Keep up the good work!

*) snmp - support AES encryption (rfc3826);

the (final?) 6.16 on the servers still missing the AES Encryption option in Winbox and WebUI.

I'd say it is normal/expected. In the previous 6.x releases lots of new features were added as CLI-only first, with GUI support being added several releases after.

you will be able to select AES as an option using winbox when 6.16 is released.

The last 6.16 fix this.

Since v6.16 has now been released, this topic should probably not be a sticky announcement anymore ;)
