Real Life RouterOS Performance - v6.15

Tue Jul 15, 2014 12:46 am

Hello All

I thought I would give some stats on real life Internet traffic performance since we upgraded our x86 router from v5.24 to v6.15.

We are running almost 700Mbps Internet traffic with 2 full BGP feeds and peering with about 30 other ISP's. Our traffic consists of more than 50Mbps voice and we are using connection tracking and firewall with about 1000 queues. We are routing about 250 000 pps at peak times.

CPU sits at abou 60% during the day and 15% at night. We are running on a Intel 4x core Xeon with 4GB memory.

I am always impressed how stable the software is and how many features it has compared to hardware based routers. Thanks to the Mikrotik team for the work they do!

Oh and we will be upgrading to 10GbE soon. I will post performance stats as soon as we have completed the cut over.

That sounds great, but what were you getting before and after the upgrade to v6.x? Or did I mis-read it? :)

We started experiencing jitter and slight packet loss when reaching > 650Mbps. On the new firmware the IRQ load is distributed across cores much better.

Latency is sub 1ms and only spikes to 4ms very rarely.
