RB750 Routerboard Upgrade problem

Fri Jul 18, 2014 6:46 pm

I have 2xRB750

Managed to upgrade one RouterBOARD (& then RouterOS) fine this morning.
The other is refusing to upgrade.
The new RouterBOARD goes on but then after the reboot it reverts back to the old version again.

Current RBOARD version is 2.36
Trying to upgrade to the current latest version, downloaded from the RouterBOARD website today.

Any suggestions?

Edit: Current RouterOS version is 5.4

I have had the same problem before with older RB750's. I had fixed it in 2 different ways.

Option 1:
Download the 5.26 mipsbe ROS and copy it to the RB750 and reboot to upgrade the ROS then made sure that the firmware was also updated. [System -> Routerboard -> Click the Upgrade button to upgrade the firmware to the latest]

Option 2:
Netinstall the RB750 to ROS 5.26 and upgrade the hardware firmware (see second part of Option 1).

Good luck and I hope that helps!

So essentially, do the ROS upgrade first, then the RouterBOARD?

I thought I saw somewhere it should be done RouterBOARD first but could be wrong?

Essentially yes. ROS first then the RB firmware. The latest RB firmware is included in the ROS's.

Being that you may have some current issues, you may want to check your RB firmware first to make sure it is at the latest before you do the ROS upgrade. After the ROS upgrade, do the firmware upgrade again to the latest.

Our normal procedure here when upgrading the ROS, Download .npk to the MikroTik, reboot, System -> Routerboard -> Upgrade, reboot again.

Thanks,

Thanks.

I currently have 2.36 RB with 5.4 ROS
There was not a newer version within 5.4
Tried copying the file to the device to do the RB upgrade but it's not taking it.

OK to upgrade direct to ROS 5.26 from the versions above?

Should be able to. I have upgraded 5.2 to 5.26 before without problems. (including firmware of course)

From there, you can upgrade to 6.x if you want to run ROS 6.x. Personally, I had weird issues with the configuration (could be our scripts) when I upgraded to 6.x. I had rewritten our scripts to work with ROS 6.x and all is good now.
