How to run 1 Hotspot on dual band CAP's?

Tue Jul 22, 2014 6:20 pm

I'm running and working an hotspot+radius on a RB1100 with a remote (ovpn tunnel) basebox2 with 5Ghz radio added.

How i can add this second interface (5GHz)to the hotspot??

If i make a bridge between the two wireless interfaces, the 2.4Ghz clients can see the 5GHZ ones and i dont want this.

Please some help.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Hotspots work in the same broadcast domain. If you insist using the same hotspot server, then you might need to plug both 2.4ghz and 5Ghz basebox APs on the same switch or simply put bridge both networks.
I would suggest you create hotspot servers for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks respectively and then route them to your radius server for accounting.
In other words you can have serveral hotsposts behind a single radius.

success

if you want separate the two net, simply add another hotspot on second interface.

Simply open hotspot, hit "copy", on the new window change interface with 2nd, and press "OK". Done.

Obviously make no management difference between two hotspot, same webpage, user-manager/raius/users hotspot profile and user settings.

OK. it is a good solution for the hotspot. Thanks.

Another related question: I have virtual AP's managed with CAPSMAN to allow direct Access to internet to our clients with wpa psk increased security. The requests are sended to radius using the same tunnel as hotspot. How to disable de "default forward effect" in the dual band-same access (bridged) interfaces?

I don't know how to explain it better. I'n spanish people.

How do you would make it in local?

Think in two wireless cards (2.4 and 5GHz) in the same rb. Clients can connect to one, the other, or the two at the same time. If I bridge that two interfaces, the clients can see each other. I wan some funcionality as disabling "default forward" for this bridge. Remember i'm not using hotspot in those interfaces.

Some ideas. Thanks again.

Ok. I've tried but have to add rules and rules to the filter as I add more interfaces. Ineficient.

I'm trying now with the horizon option in the bridged (CAP) interfaces. I'll tell you. Thanks

I would create a vlan bridge (radioYY.vlanXX <-> hotspot.vlanXX ) for every radio..

Bridged CAP's (2.4 and 5 GHz) worked like a charm!! I have added the caps to the bridge dinamically with its CAP options with same horizon and become automatically inactive when there is not trafffic.

About the Vlans... How can isolate the boadcast domain of each user if the AP's are local (CAPs)?
