Memory leak

Sat Aug 30, 2014 12:52 pm

Hello all!
I have some serious memory leak... :(

I copy and paste my email to support@mtik.com
hoping you guys, might have some ideas for me quicker than the support helps.
and maybe you also have this issue?

THANKS!
Hello dear sir/madam,

I have detected a serious issue in my network.
All over, nearly all mikrotik devices.

It happens on random devices, same model also on different models.

For example my 16core CCR.
Yesterday night I checked and it was online for 120 days+

Memory usage was over 1,2GB leaving only 500mb memory free.
I downgraded this router to 6.9, and upgraded this to current version 6.19

Since a friend told me this should help.
Also on several RB750GL and 2011iL´s exactly the same is happening, but
Here I only have 60mb ram, so routers get blown up at 100% cpu and 100% memory.
I need to access them via telnet, this is the only way which barley works, and reboot them.

Just over a day time you can see graphs going up.
I send you several graphs.

I also send you a picture of my 36CCR with 16GB ram, this one runs now for 11 days
So not much change can be seen however, you see it going up every week.
And no changes are made in the network.
I also see this: Max: 633.31MiB (3.8%); Average: 558.37MiB (3.4%); Current: 624.93MiB (3.8%);

Means that now. At 11.45AM with 100m traffic it uses as much memory as it ever has.

So this is really annoying. Specially with the little routers getting stuck every time, means a lot of downtime.

I run OSPF, MPLS, VPLS, VLANs.
My friend in Germany has exactly the same, he just detected this.

adding also a monthly graph of the 36CCR, since with 16GB ram you don´t see much hm? :)

I was seeing the same on 6.15
6.18 seemed to be a bit better.

on x64 in vm's 1G memory and 2 full bgp tables. over a week it would use up 800mb

lot better now on 6.18, slow increase

I had a similar problem in the past ( 5.X time ) it was a problem with SNMP and is fixed for a long time. It might be a good idea when you guys post your configurations so that we can see what feature you all use in common. Otherwise it's just guessing around where the memory leak might be.

Hi JayKay,

Thanks for your reply.
my SNMP is disabled everywhere, so I guess this is not it for me.

I run OSPF, MPLS, VPLS, and VLANs.
my best guess is that OSPF is somehow giving issues.

I´ll post a fully detailed configuration tomorrow.

I hope we get this fixed :)

Normally the best thing to do is take some supouts from the affected MT (preferably one right after rebooting the device then one when the issue is occurring) and send them through to MikroTik to review. If you've done this it'd be useful to link this thread to them as well.
