PPPoE Server and Customers Unable to Reach Some Websites

Wed Jun 14, 2006 5:16 pm

Customers connected via PPPoE are unable to get to some websites after we upgraded from 2.8.28 to 2.9.25. Changing the MTU isn't fixing the problem. Turning on the transparent proxy fixed some Linksys routers but a customers using Mikrotik as his router is having the same issue.

The transparent proxy seems to be just a hack to the real problem. It sounds like a lot of people are having this issue, did PPPoE break in version 2.9?

Under your main PPP profile there is an option called "Change TCP MSS". Make sure its set to "YES". I have found that this setting can cause some strange problems with certain sites not working.

I'm not seeing this under the server or client menu. Where would I change this?

In Winbox, PPP->Profiles->(Choose the profile you are using). It is at the bottom of the window.

begs the question, why isnt change mss=yes the default if its required to "make it work"? What does "default" mean anyway?

I would assume default is currently "no". I also wish it defaulted to yes, it was a great cause of grief for me early on.
