300mbps and RB750gl Hardwired

Wed Dec 17, 2014 6:45 am

I am getting 300mbps speeds when connected directly to my modem. However, when I connect to my mikrotik router, I am only getting about 150mbps.

What might cause this? Is the TB750gl capable of passing 300mbps? If so, maybe my configuration is slowing it down? Or something on the network?

Thanks for the help.

Any handling you add will slow the network down, I guess you have nat and some firewall filters?

Yes I do.

Is there a mikrotik router that will better handle 300mbps on the wan side so I actually can receive that speed as I do from my modem?

I can't not have a firewall and nat and rules, etc.

Thanks.

2011 or 950g is getting close. Maybe 450g would be suitable. 1100ahx2 or 850gx2 for sure.

What do you mean by getting close? Do you mean it has the specs. It the software hasn't caught up?

I would prefer a rack mount solution.

Do you think the RB2011iL-RM will be able to handle it?

If not, what is the next rack mount that can do it?

Thanks.

No mipsbe Mikrotik router is capable of those speeds using meaningful firewall rules. The PPC ones may be. I'd recommend the ubiquiti edgerouter, which is cheap and does gigabit wirespeed.

Ok,

How does the cheap arris modem pass those speeds?

What other routers besides the ubiquiti can do 300mbps?

Thanks.

While we're at it, time Warner in Los angeles plans to have 1g wan speeds over coax.

Is there a mikrotik router that can do this?

The throughput is degraded by firewall rules. All of the devices mentioned by me can handle the speed with big reserve but it depends on how many and how difficult rules it will need to process. Getting close means around 250mbits with some basic common protective rules. If you want to be sure you are ready for gigabit and have enough power for rules you would need in the future, look at ccr models.

RB850Gx2 Will do 300
CCR1009 Does way above that.

Its the WAN to LAN speeds listed in the specs.
