Windows Network Name

Wed Apr 01, 2015 12:44 am

hey all
ok quite stupid question. How do i set windows network name. Ex when network is plugged in you will get Local Area Connection - Network 5

Where "Network 5" is generated as increment, in certain routers i can specify in DHCP server what name to show there. So how do i do that with MicroTik? I mean assign name to user not a manual rename

Tnx a lot

I can't find anything. But if you think it comes from dhcp, and have access to such network where it works, then just get a packet sniffer, capture few dhcp packets and you'll see immediately what it is, if it's there.

Probably it's just the domain suffix, which you set in the DHCP Server > Networks list.

Hello, so anyone find a solution to popoulate Network Name under DHCP?

The wierd is when clients connect thru wifi, it passes as network name the SSID, very good so far.
But Lan connections the usual Network (x)number.

Maybe with DHCP options set? But anyone has manage to work?

Mine shows up as MikroTik-CC5E53
None of my MACs are similar to this, and this is not the name of my DHCP domain.
