MPLS over EOIP questions

Thu May 07, 2015 2:44 pm

HI all,

I've had an EOIP/OSPF routed network going for some time. The EOIP tunnels are encrypted with IPSEC in transport mode.

I wanted to turn on MPLS/VPLS on for the tunnels in order to benefit from the enhanced packet switching as mentioned here:

http://mum.mikrotik.com/presentations/CZ09/MPLS.pdf

MPLS seems to be running, VPLS shows packets and the forwarding table is populated however I don't seem to see any packets actually switching - all forwarding entries show 0 bytes.

My questions are:

1.) I assume there's still no encryption or inherent security by using MPLS over the EOIP tunnels so the IPSEC transport must remain. Is this correct?

2.) What should I be setting the MPLS MTU at for the mentioned setup?

3.) Is there any other advice anyone can offer here to improve the setup. We have 100Mbps and 40Mbps fibre services at all sites, so I want to get the maximum benefit out of these links.

Thanks in advance!
