Broadcast storm limit on rb 750 ?

Wed Jun 03, 2015 4:30 pm

Hi , guys, I seems I have dummy switch connected to one of my rb750 ports.
People bhind this switch make loops once a day at least, so I need to unplugg this cable.
Is there some way to detect the loop by sensing the broadcast traffic and shutdown the port?
It could be with a especific feature or an watchdog script maybe ...
Im looking for ... any help would be preciated.
Regards,
Leandro.

I don't think that broadcast storm can be compared with network loop. Also I don't think you can do anything else beside disabling the port manual or replace the dummy switch with a managed one.

You can use RSTP on the bridge to break a loop.

rstp is useful if the loop is made between the ports of the router, am I wrong?

Dear JArda and Inox:
Since I have this problem I have been studing rstp, all docs explain and I tests how it prevent loops when connecting two ports of same switch. I did not4 find any example similar to my situation.
However I performed the test using other switch with rstp feature and It worked.
It takes half a second to detect the loop condition and get this port to "bloqued" state.
I think the switch notice the loop when he receive the bpdu paquet on the same port it was sended.
I have been trying to get same result using my mikrotik without success so I dont know if mikrotik does not work properly or my other switch is not following the standard function.

Leostereo:

Dumb switch is simply dumb.
It does not care too much, it simply broadcast packets and IMHO logic inside it is so simple that it knocks it's socks when it has power to process only the looped packets. Maybe in such state it sends them to all ports and your router is flooded with packet storm.
