FTP-server on MikroTik. Can't upload files.

Fri Aug 21, 2015 11:25 am

Hello!
There is a FTP-server on the MikroTik. The computer and one IP-camera with no problems use it. But other Chinese IP-camera only creates directories, but can not create files on the server. On another server that is not a MikroTik (it's NAS), the Chinese IP-camera creates the directories and files without problems. Analysis with Wireshark packets, collected by MikroTik sniffer, gave the following - the MikroTik does not understand the command appe.
Why is that? How to fix it?

I'm using RB751U-2HnD with ROS 6.31 and USB-flash.

Hi,

the FTP APPE command means "append to file".
I think MikroTik's FTP server implementation simply does not support this ftp feature.

Unfortunatelly, I doubt that you can change the behavior of the ftp client (IP camera in your case) - sorry :-(

Аnswered support:
Hello,

APPE is not too common used command on FTP server, currently we do not have
plans to support it,
We will consider it for the future.

Sergejs

MikroTik FTP server is only for uploading NPK files and downloading backups. It is not designed to be a public FTP server for large files and resume downloads.

You can try our SMB implementation for file sharing.

I have uploaded movie on my USB flash stick, and played movie to my laptop without problem. SO FTP can be used for storing files, diferent then backups and npk files. :)

Normis, have you already updated the smb protocol to actual standard so the contemporary windows computers are able to use it without the registry hack? Or are you just suggesting a solution that you know it doesn't work?

Hi, I have the same problem, transferring files via FTP a large (500MB) on the USB flash drive connected to my Filezilla RB951 crashes with this error:

APPE Ubuntu_15.04_x64.iso
500 'APPE': command not understood
Errore critico trasferimento file
421 No Transfer Timeout (300 seconds): closing control connection
Connessione chiusa dal server
Disconnesso dal server

I have the latest version of ROS. Why not developed the FTP utility for such use and also update the utility Samba to v3?

Hi,

normis already answered the question:

The conclusion is: The embedded FTP server is not intended to be used for anything other than uploading NPK files.
