Routerboard 1100AH's failing after being powered by POE ToughSwitch

Sat Aug 22, 2015 6:18 am

5th one now over the past 3-4 years. Works fine for a long time, sometime's over a year, then fail. Tonight I have one, if I leave POE turned off for around a minute, I can get it to come back online for up to 20 minutes before shutting back off. Power-cycle it over and over to keep it up. Only solution is to go power it by AC cord, which I don't prefer as I don't have remote reboot option at that point.

Anyone else having these issues?? I'm going to try another POE Switch, such as Netonix WISP switches. Perhaps its consuming too much amps, and over time the toughswitch 'burns out' or something???

Hi,

you could measure/monitor voltage and current provided by the ToughSwitch to prove your assumption.

I think it is possible that power supply gear (like a PoE switch) will get unable to provide enough power over time due to aging of electronic components like capacitors.
