Great to see new products and features !

NB: one small error in link "View online" for product CRS106-1C-5S ==> the link redirect to routerboard but page of CSS326-24G-2S+RM.

I'm so excited about the coming CRS326-24G-2S+! Would you mind to share us some specs? I hope for a stronger CPU and an all POE version.

Also the CSS326 looks great! Maybe some of these features could be included in the next SwOS releases:
  • LACP
    QoS
    MSTP
    DHCP-Snooping
    SNMPv3
    LLDP
    LLDP-MED
    POE (802.3af/802.3at)

Also, can someone confirm, whether or not, the CR326 has a console port?

Thanks,

Since this is a SwOS device it has no console support.
And one can not run RouterOS on it later on, because it has only 2MB of flash.
So why would it need a console port?

I don't see any reference to a RJ45 console port in the description.
If it was there, it is corrected by now.

[/list]
me too, I was hoping for at new CRS226 with at least a 600mhz processor, because the 400Mhz processor is using 50% cpu now, and sometimes it hits 100% and then I loose the ping to the switch, I have about 100 of these switches, and need about 200 more, but holding on to see if they would upgrade the processor to a faster one, and maybe even an 48 port version of it

CRS is a switch. If you have 100% CPU, it means you are using it as a router. If you need a router, we have CCR series for that.

No sorry, i only use at as a switch, no routing functions enabled, we have tried to get an explanation from you many times, anf have sent config files, but mikrotik never replied us

All the routing are done in our 4 CCR1036-8G-2S+EM

I also have about 10 of these CRS125-24G-1S-RM and they are configured exactly as the crs226, only as switch, and they use sround 8-9% cpu, thats why i think the 226 woyld benefit from the same processor as the crs125

Im still hoping that the crs226 will get a better cpu in time

Sincerely

support replies to all emails. Tell me your ticket number and I will check.

When switch is used, CPU usage is 0% because packets are not going through the CPU. They are going directly between ports.

- new SwOS powered 24-port switch CSS326-24G-2S+RM, $139
Rackmounted device with external China-grade power adapter! Shame on MT! Really unserious approach and (as a result) look! Why not add one or (better) two PS like CCR1009-7G-1C-1S+ has?

This kind of power supply won't even fit to general rack-based PDUs without sacrifice extra space.

or

I've googled these pics to post quickly but you can imagine how it looks like when you want to power such a switch in a rack. Actually you have to add extra (home-like) PDU just to connect MT devices and this will look messy and adds up extra burden on sysops. Who won't hate this?

Why not MT targets to serious markets? This way MT looks like home-net based manufacturer which impacts ability to sell to enterprise costumers. :(

In my tests, these percents are for lcd graphs. If you disable LCD - you'll immediately recover that extra CPU cycles.

Strange to know that CPU is so weak (or maybe code is so bad) that even cycled display simple statistics results in such a big CPU spending. If I run SNMP stats gathering or even accounting or simple gather stats via API calls from outside I see much lower CPU percents spent to get the same info that on LCD graphs.

It will no longer cost 130USD then. For better PSU, you should choose a CCR like you pointed out.

ok I tried to disable the lcd interface, and that reduced the cpu % with about 30%.

so the cpu is simply to weak, thats also why the 600Mhz version CRS125 isn't so affected by having the LCD turned on, I love the CRS226 for it´s dual 10Gbit SPF ports, but would love to have a stronger CPU in it

If there is a chance, that new CSS will not be affected by this bug\issue - http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=111069 ?
Does it have different switch chip than CRS226?

We talk about switches, not multicore router, right?

And yet you don't have any switch with built in PSU, not even a single-PSU! This way no chance to sell to enterprise.

This cheap external PSU are not even with thick wire!

Shame! Or this is simple not your target market?

Enterprise and ISP needs control - you offer snmp v1 only. Then need robustness - you use sheapest-looking PSU one can find, and it wont fit well at power outlet.

You can not fix this pigtail wire in you rack. I also doubt this switch can be fine controllable via SNMP or API so ISP can write a control system and integrate it into their overall system.

So what we have is very limited gigabit switch with 2 SFP+ ports (which is good) and not trustworthy-looking power supply scheme. This PSU is even hard to connect to UPS!

As for me, if you sell cheap product why do you care for rack-mount form-size?

And please offer the same (maybe more memory and storage) switch in a way ISP and enterprise would like to buy without fear of see it down due to very cheap components ( inc. PSU, but I suspect other parts are cheap too).

MT is a state telecom standart somewhere in Africa, as Wikipedia says, why don't you offer a bit more expensive offers for EU market?

ok I tried to disable the lcd interface, and that reduced the cpu % with about 30%.
I'm happy never get that cheaper versions where cpu is 400 mhz but i think it should be only 33% difference in cpu power (600 vs 400 mhz) and in a real life even less margin. But as I read your post I really start to affraid of MT cpus, what is the stuff they put in it?

Mt ROS based switches looking like handle storms by CPU, this may be the reason?

I hope you do understand what the difference is between switch and router, and that CPU is in these switches mainly for management purposes and is not in any way involved in the actual L2 switching. Don't you?

so if I order the CSS326-24G-2S+RM it will basically do the same as the CRS226 as a switch only, but with 800Mhz?

now that I see you finally ditched the LCD display on the css326, is there any plans for a 48 port CSS326, with out the LCD display there should be room for 48 ports?

I just ordered 20 more CRS226 that I need urgently, but still need to replace about 100 X 48 Port DLINK Switches, so I hope you would make a 48 port switch soon, or if not, that the CSS326 can perform better than the CRS226

Sincerely

CSS has a different OS and does not support LCD. It only has SwOS on it, so there are no optional routing capabilities like in the CRS.

Frankly speaking, it's hard to see you roadmap, so every new announcement is kind of surprise. This is funny, but it's hard to plan. Uniform way of control (SNMP or API) is a must, too, for a big network.

@Mikrotik any plans for a HAP AC lite with an SFP port? Something a bit cheaper than the normal HAP AC?
The Hex POE is awesome, except no wireless (if you take the POE capability away and add an SFP) - and the HAP AC is a bit pricey for a basic fibre install to a normal home.

SwOS Features:
  • Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (only)
Is this really a feature in these day and age ...
It seams to me MSTP is obligatory option (same as VLAN) for enterprise network switches ... I don't know of any ''serious" switch that does not support MSTP ... and every other vendor supports it even in their lowest end "manageable" switches ... and it is widely used these days ... so without it I really can not see Mikrotik CSS line entering enterprise market ... as they should really...

From what I've learn about MT hardware so far, MT won't target to enterprise market, and I don't even know what market they try to feed.

Good roadmap and declaration of their market vision would be good idea, really.

Really like what I read in the January newsletter. Esp the SwOS announcment. I saw there a 2.0 version in one of the screenshots. Will be the Webinterface functions also exposed as REST API? Since it is a cheap device, with a "large footprint" it might be helpful to automate that... esp. if the "cloud" series is included ;). Any plans on this?

I don't think the amount of RAM is the problem here. But CPU arch very likely is.

Hardly believe MT can not afford to put any decent CPU into this switch. I only suspect they wouldn't like to cut sales of other (more powerful) models.
So to say, many users be just happy to have router with many eth ports (via internal switch) capable of handling several 100s of Mbits between VLANs, too, for small money.

It's likely the switch chip they put into this device already has some CPU capable of running some lightweight management interface.
for small money.
This is the key. Putting another (more powerful) CPU in addition to what's already inside will make device more expensive.

Putting another (more powerful) CPU in addition to what's already inside will make device more expensive.
Adding built-in power supply won't rise the price to the sky but will definitely makes it easy to install 10s of such devices in one rack.

How much more expensive? Compared to other decent manufacturers the MTs are very cheap, at least in the Brazilian market. I believe there are many customers willing to pay a little more for performance and features. I would be.
Hardly believe MT can not afford to put any decent CPU into this switch.
It's likely the switch chip they put into this device already has some CPU capable of running some lightweight management interface.
for small money.
This is the key. Putting another (more powerful) CPU in addition to what's already inside will make device more expensive.

Adding built-in power supply...
I was talking about CPU, not PSU...

I got that, my point was that for any kind of rack-mount hardware it may be better to have good PSU and decent CPU and RAM so this device can be relied upon. I had some trouble mounting about ten of such a switches in a single rack since I got manage to connect these external cheap PSUs in a respective PDU.

By the way, these MT switches have plenty of room inside their cases to place internal PSU inside.

Adding more RAM won't play that much with the price, too. This clearly a way to prevent converting switches into routers, not the thing MT can be proud of.

Why do you call it incomplete?

I definetely not sure fif this device can survive that hard ambient temperature (with heavy raid/snow added, or burning sun with sand storm) but definetely worth to look at.

Why I'm sad is that general low cost devices are pretty weak to handle even 100M of incoming traffic, not even mention of doing IPSec at this speed. So in fact if you like to work with 100+ Mb speed you'll need CCR as a router and APs.

I guess juliokato called it incomplete because it is meant to be used as an LTE client, has LTE antennas builtin, but does not have LTE card installed/soldered, so you have to purchase it separately (there's a miniPCI-e slot for that). Having said that, this kind of "incompleteness" has its advantages, you can choose a decently priced card that supports the band you need.

Edit: I've just checked the product brochure out, it turns out three versions are available:
  1. RBwAPR-2nD&R11e-LTE - includes LTE modem for bands 1,2,3,7,8,20,38 and 40.
  2. RBwAPR-2nD&R11e-LTE-US - includes LTE modem for bands 2,4,5 and 12.
  3. RBwAPr-2nD - just the router, no LTE hardware installed (empty slot to install your own card into).
