Photos of towers and masts

Tue Apr 17, 2018 1:53 pm

Hi Everyone!

Let us make this topic a showcase of your tower and mast installations of MikroTik products. Post the types of masts and towers that you see the most, and showcase your installations. How are you mounting your devices? Who has the highest installation? Anything interesting is welcome.

We have 4 x BaseBox 5 (RB912UAG-5HPnD) with sector antennas in the Gerbrandy Tower in IJsselstein, Netherlands for the HAMNET network.
They are housed inside a cabin at 220m (the tower itself is 372m high).
Unfortunately in such locations DFS is causing big problems, it false-triggers and makes the channel change unneccesarily...

Picture of the entire tower:

Picture of one of the accesspoints in the cabin:

The site also has a RB260GSP and a RB2011UAS router, and some PtP equipment from the competitor.

Thanks for the photos!

Anyone else? It would be great to see different types of masts and any tricky situations where you had to mount something.

Hey, this is not very cool and not high-mounted, but we did it in 10 hours from the customer's call and till the launch. WiFi covering the central square of small city before the concert.
CAPsMAN & hotspot controller: RB850
Radio part: ITElite panel antenna box dual polarization and RB912 inside. It was made in 2015, but stil works fine :)

In the outback, towers are anything you can get permission to use...

Doesn't have to be "cool", just post any installation photos where we could see how you mount the products. Any kind of tricky masts, or maybe other challenges you have seen in placing a MikroTik device onto a tower? Close ups welcome.

As you can see there is a panel because we had issues with electricity. SXT for link and other antennas for customers. This base is made on the top of the Hotel.

Hi!
Installation on chimny ~50m hight! We have monted SXT (x3), Mant (x1), DynaDish (x3). We welded special brackets, becouse previous version what we monted on aluminium pipe, was very unstable and was moving in the wind! This is very strong bracket no moving at all!!

Very nice! And mounting is always very important. We have dishes as well in the tower shown on the first picture, in the concrete base. And during a storm the wind is very strong there due to wind deflection around the tower. So we had to make strong mountings as well, and because we used round tubes the dishes still slipped and changed direction...
Otherwise, I see that Latvia is just as flat as the Netherlands! :D

Unfortunately, on May 10, these antennas will be removed. The priest, under the pressure of the faithful and the bishop, decided to remove them.

Small towers fixed on the rocks with steel rods or galvanized iron piles,
We use them for small POPs in the rural areas of Sardinia (IT). Very often in the hills it is not possible to have electricity, so we use 24V photovoltaic panels and batteries. The low power consumption of MT devices allows for electrical continuity throughout all the year.

This type of small POPs are usually made with two or more sectoral antennas mANTBox 15s/19s or MTAS-5G-19D120 with Netmetal and RB2011 for switching.

We got over 100 houses with Mikrotiks mounted to the roofs and chimneys.
I'll try to get some got pictures - in the meanwhile some of the older setups.
Everything that holds up the antenna counts right?

Inside of blank box there are 1 RBM33G + CA433U + R11e-LTE + R11e-LTE-US and all coaxial cables from Mikrotik. At the top of the mast, 2 mANT-LTE-5o. Then the U/FTP cables (violet) are Cat 6A from Leviton/BrandRex. The other side there are a Basebox 2 with UBNT AMO2G-10 and RF Elements adapter for Basebox. Inside of the closet there is a RB450G + CA150. All backed up with an APC BackUPS Pro 550VA.

So we had a bit of a rain and wind storm and somehow a bit of water got into one of my SXT's and now the unit does not boot.
Luckily I had a LDF and a spare dish but could not mount it properly. Was in quite a hurry here and needed to get something up till I can replace the SXT.

I felt like such an idiot doing this but Its all I could do for now.

Due to the dish not having anything to mount it with, I had to cable tie it horizontally in order to get the correct tilt. Working perfectly though with 100% signal!

Do the routers really use that much power, or did you simply add extra panels and batteries to avoid unnecessary downtime?

Hi. I did my first external installation using a wAP LTE Kit to provide a secondary internet link to my home.
So, the router was installed in a mast that is used for a UHF TV antenna and I got interesting signal rates to LTE 2600 (B7) since the carrier's towers are far (around of 2.3 KM).

The performance is good and I'm getting speeds around of 16Mbps/9Mbps. The carrier apply bandwidth limit, so it's a good speed for that, since it's similar to cellphone speeds when it's near of a tower.

Hello to everyone :D
This is one of many installments I done by myself from ground. :) Every time I become better and better. Feel free to suggest some modifications to make it even more better and more practical. ;)
P.S Please don't look at the "spagetti" cables in the middle it wasn't finnished when I shoot this photo.

Cheers mate. Yeah, quite a large panel for the equipment - the site only gets 1 hour of direct sunlight per day. The rest of the day the panel is covered in shadows from the tree which bring it down quite a bit.

The top photo is with the VictronEnergy charger + a mAP I take up there to act as a MQS when I need to tinker with the routers.
The bottom photo show inside better but with the Tycon controller I was using (which was rather crap).

Not a tower but our new rack for now 12 private lora networks and development. Not completed right now, the core router is still in the old rack and it needs to be patched completely new, but a start.

Not a big mikrotik install - we use Mikrotik routers everywhere but not so much wireless gear for various reasons.

However we have started using the new 60ghz products for short haul stuff - here is a recent install with redundant links (60ghz to about 600m away, airfiber for a few km away)

Shoddy job, IMHO... but of course installation circumstances are not optimal either.

How do you turn antenna, by losening the mount on the pole? What do you do while driving around, take the whole installation (including pole base) down?

Yes, this is completely manual. When the caravan has its position I can place the antenna - neither caravan nor lte station will move then.

maybe, mounted on a plastic plate (Polyethylenplast) then a rubber-sucker (Saugnapf) in each corner to fasten to roof.
then very portable.

Yes, it's a heavy plastic plate. But it has just rubber-feet, no sucker. But I will fasten it with a strong cord and eyelets in keder rails.

It now looks like this. Let's hope it will withstand bad weather and strong wind...
