Known issue:
*) CRS328-24P-4S+ upgrade from the SwOS does not work in this version
Upgrade using SwOS firmware file "swos-css328p-2.9.bin" from https://mikrotik.com/download should be used instead.

Hello becs,

It is really frustrating. I copied my posting from v 2.8...

German IPTV (Entertain TV, MR401/201) still not working at all with this SwOS version (CSS326). No IGMP v3.
Picture freezes after a few seconds.

Independent of setting IGMP snooping.

Using together with FritzBox 7590.

Latest usable version is 2.4 (with packet flood on all ports due to missing IGMP)

Please implement IGMP v3 in next update.
Thanks.

Robert

So given this comment and no mention of IGMP in official changelog we may safely conclude IGMP is not yet fixed.
God job Mikrotik team!

I'm staying on v2.4 until IGMP is fixed.

I've been patient version after version since 2.3

Each time I upgrade, there's endless issues. Resetting resets to 2.0 and then I'd have to pray and hope it'd upgrade to the latest with my settings intact, and then having to restore again.

This is on CSS326. Can mikrotik somehow allow RouterOS to be installed on CSS326 because honestly, SwOS is complete garbage. Yes I'm annoyed. You already have a good 1 year to fix the product and its still garbage.

Hi all,
Is there prove of bugs fixing appeared @2.8 for CRS317-1G-16S+ ?
Especial freezing of switch, which forced us all to downgrade to 2.7?

I have a CRS317 that in version 2.8 often crashed the management, it was very slow access. The traffic flowed normal but the management looked strange.

This issue has been resolved with version 2.9.

Updated my CSS106-5G-1S from 2.8 and all appears to be working. However, after the upgrade, this is what the Upgrade page says:
Firmware
Current Installed Version	2.9 (built at Mon Jan 07 2019 03:04:37 GMT-0800 (GMT-08:00))
Latest Available Version	2.9 (built at Mon Jan 14 2019 02:29:12 GMT-0800 (GMT-08:00))
At the bottom, it says that there is an upgrade available. Tried the upgrade again and it still comes up with the 07 January version and not the 14 January version.
I have not upgraded the other three switches yet.

Upgrading from 2.8 to 2.9 on a CSS106-5G-1S causes severe traffic drop between 1G ports and 100Mbit ports. It's random from 0 to 40Mbps.
Reverting back to 2.8 traffic increased back to steady 100Mbps.

Yes. Works.
Same story :(
CRS317-1G-16S+ with SwOS 2.9:
  • connection to the switch stopped every 3-5 min (no ping, no web, serial - working)
  • leds on ports not blinking - all ON
  • after hour on stopped all traffic thru switch - must be rebooted by serial console
back to last working version on SwOS - 2.7.

very disappointed indeed again...

Upgraded about 4 of our RB260 series switches (2 of each) to this code.
The ACL page will not SAVE any changes.
Random bandwidth.
Reverting back to 2.8 code.
I do not recommend upgrading to 2.9.

Have no problem with CSS106 too, can't say same for CRS317....

Hi,
reading that no IGMP (Snooping) Problems are know in the latest 2.9 Firmware release, made me a bit angry...

I currently use several Dell (eg. Powerconnect 7024, 6248) switches and for the Office (because it is silent) a Mikrotik CSS326-24G-2S+RM.
There a dozen or so VLANs configured but only VLAN30 is used for IGMP Snooping, which is needed for the IPTV Product from German Telekom (currently i am still using the old T-Entertain Platform, in a couple of weeks this platform will be shut down by DTAG and only the newer EntertainTV platform is still usable - we'll see whats still working then...)

But making a Point: VLAN 30 with IGMP Snooping activatet works great with the Dell switches. With the IPTV Receivers zapping is a pleasure, you can see (or better you can't) the switch from unicast to broadcast, which occours after a couple of seconds from the Platform, a smooth transition.
With the Mikrotik there is a 5-10 second gap when the unicast switches to broadcast. In these Seconds the Picture freezes, the IGMP group is (too slowly) joined, and after that everyhing is working fine again.

Im am very disappointed that Mikrotik seems to be very inexperienced in the whole IGMP subject. Even the cheapest IGMPv3 Snooping compatible Switches from Netgear (GS105E) work way better in this szenario than the 'rather' expensive and theoretically way more sophisticated Mikrotik Switch :-(

Hope this will be solved soon - but since I bought the switch (back last year) it almost layd unused in its box waiting to be usable :-(

Cheers

@becs Thanks for the offer to solve the IGMP issue via direct support.

I already have been in contact with support more than one year ago using version 2.6. Answer:
SwOS does not support IGMP v3 and there is no fix until v3 is implemented.
IGMP v3 is on the feature list and it will not be implemented in near future.

IGMP changes are not mentioned in release notes for 2.7, 2.8 or 2.9 except this one:
"CSS106: forward IGMP query messages even when IGMP snooping is disabled;"

@Deantwo: I complain about the German IPTV IGMP issue in the forum to save time of other CSS326 users.

Cheers
Robert

Hi,
I did some tests on a CRS317 with switchos 2.9 (I usually use routeros).
The test wasn't long, because straight after starting with switchos, some iot (netatmo weather station) and the logitech harmony hub were unreachable.
I think harmony hubs are using zeroconf or mDNS.
I played with igmp parameters (vlans and system panels), but nothing went back to normal.
So I'm back to routeros. At least it works (if igmp snooping is disabled on the bridge. With it enabled, it works partially, with strange behaviors).
I'll try the next release.

i did set the management port on the system page.
Same thing happened to me when upgrading from 2.8 to 2.9; the switch that was previously accessible is suddenly not responding to ARP requests (and therefore the web UI is inaccessible). It's still sending out MNDP packets, though - I see it in the Neighbors list on all my RouterOS devices.

After upgrading my CSS326-24P-4S+RM to OS 2.9, my sfp+ ports stopped working with my direct attach 10G transceivers. I have two pairs of those direct attach copper transceivers that were working fine before, now both are not recognized. One pair is a Cisco SFP-H10GB-CU3M. The other is an Optech.The sfp+ ports are confirmed to be still workng working OK with the new OS using some Finisar opto trasceivers. Any suggestion on how to proceed? I was connecting to the sfp+ ports on a CRS328-24P-4S+RM.

even on 2.8 the problem exists in 2.9 just gets worse

conecting rb260 to main router gigabit full duplex

testing in 2,7 if a client on a downlink port of the switch is at 100m full duplex i cant surpas 75-85mbps of download (upload test 95mbps ok) on speedtest, switching the client to 1g full duplex gets 150mbps on speedtest (that was the internet connection available)

testing in 2,8 gets 25-40 mbps of download on speedtest

testing on 2.9 gets 5-10 mbps of download on speedtest

the funny (not so funny) thing is that because of this issue we tested a CRS 326-328 with routeros or sw-os and suffer from the same issue, (25-40 mbps of download)

looks like a common behavior on mikrotik switch's

I had the same issue after upgrading to 2.9. The experience was so bad It cost me, several customers. I downgraded to 2.8 and went back to normal. I had checked for any errors but there were none.
It made me hard reset core CCR and reconfigured it but still, slow connections persisted. Only a downgrade sorted it out.

Then proceeded to upgrade firmware via the web gui manually [swos-css106-2.9.bin]

Switch is no longer accessible via 192.168.88.1. Does not respond to arp.. It appears in Mikrotik neighbour discovery with firmware 2.7, its uptime started counting from 0 after the upgrade.

Will a power reset bring it back to life? Will need to visit a remote location.

Using SWOS 2.9 after a while, we often have a fan which constantly spins up and down, leading to an irritating noise.
Are there any options we can use to mitigate this? On routeros we don't have this issue (but I prefer the simple configuration on swos).
Device is the CRS328-24P-4S+

Can I update my switch or I need to phone for specialist???
It's quite a simple procedure and takes 30 seconds. Still you should read carefully what has changed between your version and the new one, and if there are any known bugs that might be a problem to you in the new version.

I had this same problem and wrote to support and got the answer to fix it. You have to switch back to router OS, install the latest routerOS version which updates the fan controller firmware, then switch back to switchOS and the fan oscillations will stop.

Dear Sirs,
I run a CRS317-1G-16S+ with SwOS 2.9.
It's a great switch, however:

Getting 1Gbase-T sfp modules to recognize link up is a pain. At every reboot, links on such sfp modules are dropped and stay down.
The only way to get links back up again, that I know of, is to configure them no No Autonegotion, No Flow control, reboot the SwOS, see links still being down, then click them back to Autonegotion and Flow control. This is a bit of a discomfort, since that has to be done every time the switch is (re)booted, regardless of power outage or software upgrades.

Leaving Speed configured to 1G shows links are up, alas, no traffic will flow on that setting.

Said does not happen with 10Gbase-T sfp+'s, nor with 10Gbase opticals or DACs.

Anyone with further information on the matter - ie. how to get this run a bit smoothier?

Thank you.

CSS106-1G-4P-1S with 2.7 firmware out of the box.

Did you have address acquisition in the system tab set to "DHCP with fallback" (think it might be default)? I noticed that after upgrading to 2.9 my switch pulled a DHCP address which prevented the 192.168.88.1 address to stop working. I would check if a lease was assigned to your switch as I was able to access it once I saw the ip it was assigned. The original default should have been set to "static" most likely as this setting now appears to properly work.

I can confirm a trouble with SFT interfaces in SwOS 2.9
I have a CSS326-24G-2S+ switch with two SFP copper modules inserted in both the SFP slot.
Both the adapters are similar to the MikroTik S-RJ01 but cheaper (about 17€ on Amazon), they are 10-100-1000M Ethernet with auto-negotiation.
They are of brand 6Com, model 6C-SFP-T:
http://www.6comgiga.com/products_list/pmcId=99.html
and they worked great with 2.8 version of SwOS.
A couple of months ago I upgraded the SwOS to 2.9 version and I didn't note any trouble.
Last week I had a blackout and the switch rebooted. From this time the SFP modules worked only at 1G and I couldn't get them to work at 100M.
The trick of os62 posted here was unsuccessful in my case, so I tried to downgrade the SwOS to 2.8 version and magically the adapters worked fine again.
I don't know if the same issue occurs with Mikrotik S-RJ01 SFP module because I haven't it.
Yesterday I wrote to MikroTik support reporting this trouble and hoping to fix it in the next SwOS version

I tried mr. D'Alessio's suggestion of downgrading to 2.8.
That, instead of improving matters, started to flap all ports on the switch.
So back to 2.9, and reboot-loss of 1000Base-T sfp modules on all power outages and reboots. Unfortunately.

I sure do hope this'll be fixed.

Hi os62,
I'm sorry for the trouble downgrading the SwOS firmware in your switch.
Maybe the file you used was not the right one for your device? ...I don't know...
In every case my switch is the "CSS326-24G-2S+" and it is different from your model (CRS317-1G-16S+). Perhaps the behavior changes for this reason.
Just as a simple tip I wish to tell you that in the MikroTik download page:
https://mikrotik.com/download
I was not able to find the 2.8 version, so I solved by changing the link of the 2.9 version in the row of my device. The link is:
https://download.mikrotik.com/swos2/css ... 26-2.9.bin
and I changed it in:
https://download.mikrotik.com/swos2/css ... 26-2.8.bin
(the link works changing the "9" to "7" also).
Using the same rule, the 2.8 version for your switch should be
https://download.mikrotik.com/swos2/css ... 17-2.8.bin .
Did you use this link?
I hope you'll solve every problem in the best way.
Best regards,
Bruno

My new CRS312 shipped with 2.10 which does not work with 1G SFPs at all. I've been talking to support a bit with this being my latest reply (there is more conversation before about it not establishing a 1G link to my UBNT ERP):

I did more testing with the following and found the same results for all:

-10Gtek SFP+ DAC
-10Gtek 1G SFP MM fiber
-Cisco 1G SFP MM fiber
-UBNT 1G SFP MM fiber
-addon 10G SFP+ MM fiber
-Dell 1G SFP MM fiiber
-ipolex 1G SFP MM fiber

My Ubiquiti Edgerouter Pro will link to anything else I throw at, but even so I forced the port to 1000/full/no auto negotiation using ethtool.

The CRS312 will not link to anything at 1G with any of the above SFPs when it auto negotiation mode, and will always establish a simplex link when forced to 1G but obviously traffic only in one direction doesn't help me much.

As mentioned before, the CRS312 does link successfully at 10G with an EdgeSwitch, or at least it did until the SwOS version 2.10 (dated 09/03) came out. Now to even get that to link I have to reboot with it auto negotiating, force it to 1G, and then set it back to auto negotiation again. That will finally bring up the link. Additionally, all of the ports of the switch drop off entirely when I make any changes to the SFP ports.

This thread mentions at least some of what I'm dealing with: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=144031

I think the SwOS firmware is just a disaster at the moment when it comes to SFP slots. BTW, I tried RouterOS and it was no better.

I doubt there is much you or I can do until these issues evolve more, but I would ask if there is anything I can do to help the development of this firmware, please let me know.

The question is when 2.10 will come on public, to check what they did for last 10 months?

On the specifics of you issue, have you tried setting 1g full duplex manually on ubiquiti device?

On general

CRS312 is a very new device

My advice, wait at least 2 months to put it in a production workload, takes time to get all the new discovered issues and fix them, do not depend on that

Ubiquiti is a bit odd when trying to force it to 1G - When done through the web interface you'll see "1000 is not valid for Copper port" because it's a shared port but I did force it on the back end with ethtool. Unfortunately it didn't make a difference.

I was waiting for the CRS312 for a long time and was very quick to jump on it when it was released, so I understand paying the price for that a bit. They are bound to figure this one out because it's so easy to reproduce.

2.10 is already available for upgrade on devices.
What's new in v2.10:

*) do not ignore RSTP port state when forwarding DHCP, PPPoE or IGMP snooped packets;
*) IGMP snooping: send out IGMPv3 queries by default;
*) IGMP snooping: handle IGMPv3 leaves much better;
*) IGMP snooping: handle dropped IGMP reports much better;
*) CRS309, CRS312, CRS317, CRS326Q: fixed ACL matching by ip destination port;
*) CRS309, CRS312, CRS317, CRS326Q: fixed ICMP TTL packet switching;
*) CRS305, CSS106: make ACL work again;
*) CSS106: improve packet forwarding between different speed interfaces;
*) restart RSTP on LACP ports that got disbundled;
*) made disabling of flow-control work as expected;
*) do not account rx-overflows twice in SNMP ifInErrors;
*) CRS328-24P-4S+: make auto upgrade work;
*) CRS326Q: fixed vlan configuration on ports sfp22-sfp24 & qsfp+1.1-qsfp+2.4;
*) added support for unicode symbols in labels;
*) make DHCP & PPPoE snooping work correctly on port trunks;
*) made port lock filter out packets with unknown source addresses;
*) CRS309: make VLAN configuration work;
*) fixed problem where disabled autonegotiation on some SFP modules
became effective only after reboot;
*) CRS305, CRS326, CRS328: improved switch-chip resource allocation;

Dear Bruno,
yes, I figured out how to alter the download link and got the correct firmware, so it wasn't that..

Oddly enough, I found out (on CRS317 and SwOS 2.9) that toggling 1000Base-T SFPs Off-enabled and Enabled on Link pane, make them work stable forced at 1 Gbit/s speed - even over reboots.

Haven't have had the guts to try if it'd work over power outage, probably will try that this evening. I'm pretty sure switching OSs and we'd be back on disable/enable again.
