For anyone getting on Mikrotik's case about bugs and having a hard time with their production equipment failing / crashing or otherwise... Lets get real, look through the forums, do some research. You will constantly have someone complaining of issues in their production environment.
If you have a production environment (for example someone before me is upset he had downtime on his production setup due to bugs in 6.30 and lost customers or money and time) having great luck blinding upgrading previous versions is not going to guarantee a success in the future. Any upgrade is a risk which may involve rolling back! Even more so in a production environment where you want things as stable as possible with as little downtime as possible.
You want to test something new? Get a second identical model router /hardware and upgrade that first, export /import configs to the test, TEST TEST TEST then roll it out to your production environment WITH keeping the older version tested and true as fall back. This just makes sense to me, sure it may cost you a bit more money to buy the second hardware but you should have a backup handy in case of a hardware failure anyways!
Everyone chooses to upgrade to the latest, it is not forced on you. I have rolled back plenty of times. I even have some internal hardware running v3.25 still because they get the job done, without any crashes and no need for the new features. All export their configs on a scheduled routine, as well as have backup hardware ready in case of failure.
I generally test the latest at my home, even when I have a test environment setup to give extra effort to try and catch a bug before rolling an update out to my production environment. Even then I roll out to ONE and let it run for a month and decide if I want to roll that out to the rest ( which yes may put me behind with some updates but at least I know its stable, or what features may be broken)
In conclusion, nothing is perfect. Programming included. TEST TEST TEST before production rollout!
I enjoy all of my Mikrotik products when I don't screw up my own config and spend hours finding my mistake
