I love the new WAP AC device. Finally 802.3af/at PoE, but still 802.11ac first generation ASICs, i.e. "Wave 1".Let´s look at current Atheros chipsets:

• For 2.4Ghz only :
  TP9343(Dragonfly)     MIPS 74Kc     750 MHz     bgn     3x3:3    

• For 2.4/5.0Ghz:
  QCA9990     PCIe     abgn+ac     4x4:4             Wave2 MU-MIMO 80MHz
  QCA9994     PCIe     abgn+ac     4x4:4             Wave2 MU-MIMO 160MHz

Of course the QCA9994 would be my favourite.

• So, what is the current state of Mikrotik based wave 2 devices. Are those in development state, already?
• Will wave 2 products be announced in 2016?
• Will wave 2 products be available in 2017?

Some hints would be great.

(I am waiting for second generation WAP AC, as CAPSMAN tunnel needs a lot of CPU... Therefore an ASIC with more integrated CPU power would be nice to have)

No, driver does Not Support them
I tryed 9888 Wave 2 2x2 from Compex,

the 4x4 will arrive in october, But i think Mikrotik ROS Wireless Driver is outdatet!

They are Working on your own driver, so It will Need Time to implement new Chipsets, i Hope not the Same Time Span since we Hoping for ROS 7.0

This is ARM, not the same Plattform with M11G

For WISP there no needed improvements are done since ac Hardware becomes available

- spectral Scan is missing
- TDMA is legacy
- Support for 802.11 r/v/k (needed for Wifi4EU)

This List is endless, better they sell nothing new

Any other manufacturer in AC works better. Mikrotik will never improve the wireless. A year ago I had problems with the tdma and still not solve it.

Normis we have no time to lose hoping in a miracle. We have to stay on the market and we need to take important decision for the future of our company (fiber telco grows quickly) so if you have any announcement to do please don't wait more.

It looks like Mikrotik is outdated. None of the Mikrotik support opposes it

State of Mikrotik WIFI is always at least one generation behind (right now it's more like a two generations behind). When the wave2 hardware finally arrives, it will be marketed as best thing on earth, while competition will be selling 802.11ax gear like hot pancakes...
If you want latest technology, best throughput and all the new features, you simply can't get them from Mikrotik. Waiting for new hardware is like waiting for Godot, it will never come until it's too late. Or you get something like RB4011 where it took 15 months to figure out why wifi doesn't work correctly... and it's still not confirmed if it's really fixed.
Solution is to just use Mikrotik where it's strong (60GHz,Routing,some switches - as long as you don't get one with flapping ports) and just don't bother with rest...

I sayed it the hole last year, don't spend anything in Mikrotik Wirleess, there is no future!
There is no move, there is no information.
Our decision is done, we only need Mikrotik spare parts for the old areas....
We use 60ghz, until there is an better solution from someone else.

But in near Future we don't have any Mikrotik in our Network.....
Routing does not have needed IPv6 Features (same here as Wireless), no Info, no Roadmap, nothing ,
so at the Point we run out of IPv4, we move away from Mikrotik, because no complete IPv6 integration.

Sad reading I like to remember the old days when Mikrotik set the trend. Nstreme and Nstreme dual! That was the time ...

What brand did you chose? There are many other low cost vendors that promise more than MikroTik, but neither have much experirnce nor are tested in higher density situations (campus environment)
(How many concurrent clients do you have in your wireless network? How many clients are usually connected to one access point?)

Yes: ROS v7.0 does have a new Kernel
No: ROS v7.0 does have the same Wireless drivers as ROS v6, i.e. MikroTik programs its own Wireless drivers and doesn't use the drivers provided by the vendors of the Chipsets (e.g. Broadcom, Qualcomm,...)
Those vendors drivers have everything ready to use, even 802.11ax features, nowadays:
- DL & UL OFDMA
- DL MU-MIMO
- BSS Coloring
- TWT
- TxBF

As of 01/2020 we are all still waiting for DL MU-MIMO for our 802.11ac (Wave 2) chipset based MikroTik Access Points: cAP ac, hAP ac2, RB4011,...

Look into changelogs and see how many entries are for wireless. If there would be a bigger team only for wireless I would guess they have to argue progress.

You should know by now, that MikroTik doesn't leak unannounced products in the forum. At least intentionally.
Such things get announced in newsletters and MUM events.
