Product Request: Wall Plug Mountable wAP AC

Wed Aug 03, 2016 3:03 am

So I am working on building a few mesh networks inside of buildings. It would be really awesome to have a version of the wAP ac that had the power adapter built in and mounted directly on to the outlet.... It would make building a mesh really easy. No mounting the unit and then using a POE injector... literally just plug it in to an outlet and move on.

Thoughts?

If it would be a power line adapter with the ethernet over electricity wires, that could be much more usable.
And it could be in two versions. Wall pluggable or in-wall mountable instead standard wall plug.

in-wall mountable instead standard wall plug.
like this one?
tbh, there is not much of an use for an AP that requires separate network & power connectivity.
say PL works as it supposed to, then it's a great use for places you don't want to mess things up, like historical buildings of some kind.
everywhere else you'd need some sort of "backhaul" network infra, say ethernet cable, which then can be used to power the thing as well.
a recessed design that fits the standard 55mm EU switch/socket frames would be cool, but i guess the POE version could be realised in this case.

I was thinking wall plug mountable... e.g. no Ethernet. For doing a mesh.

this one i found on eBay, it is made (or branded) by a manufacturer named Tenda. the PN is Tenda W310A
www.tenda.cn

but there are loads of similar stuff on alibaba & eBay. just search for "in wall access point"
https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/ ... 86930.html
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222194755653 <- this one is looking quite nice.
my biggest problem with them is that all of those run some buggy crapware with backdoors and no
sw update is gonna ever come for them.

Ubiquiti as also something similar in "US" form factor, the UAP-IW.

I'd love that with mikrotik. But also need wall plug mounted for mesh.

Just an idea, anyone thought about using mAP lite as in-wall AP? It's small, so it would fit in the hole, if not with case, then without it for sure.

I thought about the mAP... ... but I wanted dual band.
