Hardware type/identity

Fri Aug 26, 2016 8:13 pm

Hi Guys

First post from me.

A couple of months ago I bough a RB850Gx2 for testing. I'm interested in the IPsec part.

In other threads I've read about the first models was without hardware acceleration for IPsec.
How do I see if my 850 is the model with it? I can't find the right documentation.

From "ressources":

CPU e500v2
CPU Count 2
CPU Frequency 533 MHz
Architecture Name powerpc
Board Name RB850Gx2
Version 6.36.2 (stable)

Thanks

Hello.

The RB850Gx2 devices are now shipped with a CPU that features Hardware Encryption Acceleration (serial numbers that start with “5”). Combined with up to date RouterOS version (6.28 or above), you will now be able to reach 500Mbps with AES128 encryption on this device.

Hi honzam

Thanks a lot for your answer :)

I have that "5" in the serial number,- that's what I was hoping for, - a precise answer.
I had the fear, that my 850 was a old one which had spend many months under the desk somewhere.

I better buy one more to test properly,- I'm testing against a Ubiquiti Edgerouter and a pfSense SG-2220,- and I can't get those high numbers.

Can't wait to get the next one and test :-)

Thanks again,- I have to learn to navigate all that documentation.

I've owned an RB850gx2 with serial number 7**********

Here are my own results between RB850gx2 and CHR (VMWare x86_64 i7 4770)
I was able to utilize only 170mbit/s over l2tp/ipsec (10% for BTest)

Are there any ways to achieve 300+ mbit/s in my case? The CHR looks idle on the benchmark

You have to use aes 128 to run HW acceleration.

Do you mean aes-128-cbc?
I've tried both, almost no change. I do't see "encryption" row in profiler on RB850gx2, what does it mean? I think it uses hardware encryption.

128cbc and md5 or sha1 # (I think) . Hardware acceleration is supported only in revision with first digit 5.

My serial starts with first digit 7, comes with 6.34.2 firmware. It think it is the latest version of the board, so it should support hw acceleration. Any prooflink welcomed ^_^
I'll try to contact support for clearness.
