hex PoE (RB960PGS) and IP cameras PoE mode A

Fri Apr 21, 2017 12:27 pm

Hello everybody!
I would be very grateful for an answer!
There are cameras that support 802.3af mode A.

1) Is it possible to power them from the hex PoE (provided the 48V power supply is used)?
2) Whether damaged camera when connected, considering that the hex PoE is in 802.3af mode B?
3) Does anyone have experience successful power supply cameras Dahua and Hikvision from the hex PoE?"

I have 3 Hikvision POE cameras connected to my RB960PGS.
RB960PGS has 2 options to provide POE (Interface->POE->POE out):
1. Auto on
2. Force on

My Hikvision cameras worked very unstable with "Auto on" so now I use option "Force on".
With this option cameras work good within 6 months already.

I use 3 DS-2CD3135F-IS cameras with my Hex.
I think your camera will be working too.

But you should pay attention - Mikrotik recommends for stable POE:
Maximum power output of each Ethernet port in this mode is 1A (total maximum for all ports is 2A). To reach maximum output
power it is recommended to use a high voltage adapter together with the included PoE injector to power the hEX
unit (48/56V), because 802.3af/at input is limited to 30W and the hEX will consume up to 8W by itself
For my Hex POE I use 48V 3A power supply, but not 24V one that was in package.
