CRS 317 support 802.1ad QinQ

Sun Aug 20, 2017 5:02 pm

Hello Everybody!
Its my first post on this forum, but I am with MT from 2.8.x version.

My question is:
Is QinQ vlans supported in CRS317-1G-16S+RM?
In specs is 801.Q only...

I have reply from support@mt: Does not support vlan-in-vlan.

CRS317-1G-16S+RM currently does not support QinQ VLANs in switch chip (hardware support).
You can currently configure it through VLANs:
https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:I ... LAN#Q-in-Q

802.1ad is a bridge standard so we must extend our bridge implementation to support it in hardware (though switch chip). We are working on it, it will be added in future versions.

So it does not support this? https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:C ... 8Q-in-Q.29

Doing QinQ in Software on a CRS317 is not very efficient though, when it comes to 10Gbit/s traffic. At 1-2 Gbit/s traffic, we'll be at CPU maximum.

Where are we with this supporting QinQ in the new configuration style ?

Aren't the QinQ a switch chip feature? I thought it was done by hardware, not involving the CPU.

Please read back in the thread and you'll realise, that Mikrotik stated, that the chip feature is not exposed to winbox yet and it has to be done in software until such time.

Is it still true that Q-in-Q is not supported with firmware 6.41rc5*

Only in software. (Meaning CPU)

Hardware is not configurable yet.

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum :)

Could you please explain how can I set TPID for vlan interface with 'use service tag' marked?
As far as I understood it uses the 0x88A8 for service tag, and 0x8100 for inner tag.

I need the ability to select service tag TPID values between 0x88A8 | 0x9100 | 0x8100
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Hello, by default VLAN interface uses and accepts encapsulation with TPID 0x8100. If "use-service-tag" option is enabled, then VLAN interface uses TPID 0x88A8. TPID 0x9100 is not supported in VLAN interfaces.

As other people wonder - Are we/Have we gotten hardware support for QinQ?

Doesn't look like it, though the Marvell 98DX8216 is a metro chipset (marvell's words) which would suggest 802.1ad should be available at the HW level.
But my guess is we won't see this with this HW.
