WAP LTE missing interface

Sun Oct 15, 2017 10:18 pm

Hello, I would like to report missing interface on WAP LTE.
It was working for 10 days, but with often disconnections. I've set up script to monitor interface status and reboot if it was offline.
Now, there is no LTE interface at all.

I have tried to install latest rc version and lte package as well but with no help.
I've tried to re-seat mpci card but that did not help either.
Anything else ?

Did you resolve this?

I have pretty much the exact same issue. I had a spre unit with me, which didn't disconnect nearly as much when I swapped it around. But not sure how to get this LTE interface back

out of interest, did you notice at all any heat problems on that unit?

the unit was so warm, the sticker is bubbling on the back. When I pulled out the sim card, it was also bent (but I'm not sure if this is because its was a micro-sim inside a normal sim, maybe the insert its in isn't perfectly smooth (which Mikrotik will need to address as well), or if it was actually the heat that damaged the SIM.

The other unit, thats working doesn't have the heat problem, and also sims go easily in and out of it.

@uldis, ticket number is [Ticket#2017122022003963]

I couldn't find any other useful info on the forums, so will be helpful for others to see a thread based on possible issues

Hi,
Yes I did notice somewhat more heat then usual.
Passive cooler was so warm that glue melted from chipset and cooler fell off.

Sim Location and insertion and removal process is painfull.

Mikrotik staff, you should have team of product Beta testers which will return objective Feedback info to you in order to have more satisfied customers. I believe you can find forum users (with MT cert) which would participate volounterly (me included).

Same problem wAP LTE kit
First heat felt at the back of the unit after investigating LTE interface gone.
Twice reset no success.
Heat-sink slides off
I have photos to share if you pm me.
Sent back for full refund
Got one from another supplier.
New one keeps stopping to surf internet although LTE running.
Upgraded Modem firmware with instructions from SUPPORT.(v1 to v8)
never ending story - new equipment with teething problems and no self help available
Very happy with the speed of the unit.

The same thing, Heat-sink slides off.
I returned the Heat-sink to his place, but the LTE interface have problem and disappears.
The problem is that new WAP-kit is not available for another 2 months.
Does anyone know what a mpci-e card is working with wap???
I heard, the Huawey ME 909s-120 does not work.

Thank you very much for your response Darkprocess.
The techship.com site is a description for this modem, quotation
"In MikroTik boards RB912 and RB953, this module will not be initialized correctly. Please select another module."
And I read in the forum about the problems with this modem, but i do not know if the new Ros Firmware has added support for that modem.

Do you mind possibly changing the topic to include "(Overheating perhaps?)" or something to that effect to help others identify this thread.

Happened to a 2nd unit that I have too.

Re: WAP LTE missing interface

Mon Feb 05, 2018 2:03 pm

yesterday the second unit started acting weird:

LTE is up and running but i cannot get any traffic. ping to various locations says timeout and i can see outgoing traffic on the interface but none incoming.
ip is there and default route is installed as well. if i point the default route to some other router ping works...

i will reset the unit as soon as i can get my hands on it (a coworker is currently retrieving it from the customer)

its a real shame because the WAP LTE timing was spot on for a bigger project where it would solve a lot of my problems if it worked reliably

I am led to believe senior management is trying to investigate the underlying cause of the units that are failing.

Hopefully its only something like 1 in 10 or 1 in 100 with the issue.

Happened the same to me.
The device was worked in the attick (it's winter here, so between 0 and 10C deg). LTE interface disappers, even not visibile in PCI list.

At the moment i'm verifying the device. Normal room temperature like 23C, the device reports 67-68C deg even out of the plastic case.

All the PCB was very hot, even on sides. Can be hold by hand, but not for so long.

just wanted to report: i pulled off the miniPCI-e card and the board says 37C deg. The heatsink on board is not warm.
so the issue is definitely with the R11e-LTE card.

Looks like the lte card is damaged - contact for the RMA of the unit.

Same Problem here, died in front of me. Started with lower Bandwith, than no Pings anymore and than the Interface was not found anymore. Unfortunately, I am very disappointed. Is it fixed with a new Charge of the LTE-Cards ?

I have about 40 WAP LTE's and 8 of them missing LTE interface by now. This is insanely high failure rate. I can't endlessly RMA them. Unless Mikrotik finally admit the problem and actually do something, I do not recommend to buy this product.

I have the same issue.
Sometimes lte stuck and cannot reconnect. I wrote simple script which pings 8.8.8.8, and if it is not accessible, disables LTE and re-enables it after 10 seconds. But suddenly LTE interface was completely gone - not visible in web interface admin panel. I restarted the entire device (not just LTE interface) and everything is fine again.
It's pretty hot these days (30 celsius, 4g modem located on the roof), and failure happens usually after 10 days of non-stop working. data traffic is low.
It would be okay to restart sometimes, but that is remote location, far away, and I need it working stable.

Model name is MikroTik SXT LTE kit.

No firmware or downgate update will help!
It works without updating the firmware (modem firmware)
The likely reason is a defective LTE modem (board) or PCIe ports on the board, or maybe all of them.
Usually these are changed under warranty and the problem is no longer uncommon.
In the kit versions, there is a thermal pad between the module (modem) board and the RB board, which is the reason for the interruptions!
The fact is that although they are considered all-weather and outdoor, moisture accumulates in this gasket, even water droplets remain.
Not everyone has a problem! Only in those with high humidity and temperature at the dew point. Usually these are window sills and poorly ventilated rooms!
I advise you to remove this gasket. Constructive flaw or poor gasket materials.
And the most interesting thing is that the gasket fits very tightly to the RB, seals all the components of the board and the holes from the modem module. and yet all wet!
Firmware and other native manipulations work according to the "what if" principle, apparently during this time it has time to dry out and the interface appears.
No pictures, so I would attach. On the street this should not be, moisture does not accumulate there.

Thanks for this information. I'm using my LtAP on both slots with the "giant thermal pad" (I'm not sure what is exactly) provided on Kit models, but on indoors and without humidity problems. For outdoors applications I will consider this tip.

Regards.

Hi,
the same problem with 2 of 3 devices that I have with LTE Interface
after 2 years of permanent work can't see the LTE Interface
Do I have any chance to get the Interface back?
After 2 years of impecable function, do I have any chance to get RMA?
I have hundreds of Mikrotik Devices in my support, no one was failed until now as these 2 LTE kits, very disappointed, probably the device has a hardware Problems.

The likely reason is a defective LTE modem (board) or PCIe ports on the board, or maybe all of them.
most likely it's the modem. i also encountered one (inside a LTAP mini) which was working fine (indoors) but stopped, and on the next reboot the LTE interface was gone.
if i do an usb power reset to the modem slot, briefly it is detect as MARVELL WUKONG, then it disappears for good. also tried to test the same modem with a regular PC (using an USB-to-mPCIe adapter) and it didn't work there either.
i replaced the modem with another R11e-LTE, and the LTAP is working fine again.

the issue was not related to any firmware upgrade events. though.
