The LoRaWAN part is implemented with BeagleBones using the SPI bus.

They use ROS only for the networking part, behind the BeagleBones.
The gateway is based on iC880a LoRaWAN™ concentrator by IMST which uses Semtech SX1301 base band processor designed for use with LoRa® networks. BeagleBone Green with 1GHz (2000 MIPS) processor and fully operational on fast SPI bus was chosen as a powerful control unit.
Mikrotik Routerboard providing the advanced settings of the communication functions on Ethernet serves as a communication gate with the Internet on TCP/IP.
As of this time, AFAIK, ROS does not support LoRaWAN natively.

I'm starting to think that with this LoRa friendly product and the LTE stuff MT has, MT products might be well suited to support iot sensor systems and communicate their info back to clouds for a very reasonable price point.
Am I off base here???
Looking for any guidance ideas!!

MikroTik announced a new product in Vienna a few weeks ago. It will be a wAP 2GHz outdoor AP with Lorawan card inside. You will be able to forward all sensor readings to any external Lora portal, like Thethingsnetwork, Loriot etc.

wAPR-2nD&R11e-LoRa8 - LoRa gateway for ISM 863-870MHz bands with full RoS support. WAP product with LoRa gateway. Integrated 3dBi antenna for LoRa and 2dBi for 2.4GHz WiFi AP. Higher gain external antenna could be connected through SMA pigtail (should be purchased separately). 8 uplink channels. Supported regions EU863-870, IN865-867, RU864-870, KZ865-868, custom channel selection. UDP packet forwarder to any public (TheThingsNetwork, Loriot.io, etc.) or private network server. Very affordable pricing.

R11e-LoRa8 - LoRa mPCIe Gateway module. Can be integrated in any RouterBOARD product with mPCIe slot that has USB support. For example LTAP mini, M11, M33 and others. Requires LoRa package installation.

to me, the M33 and LTAP (not mini) integration makes the most sense, because i can add LTE uplink (but might be that 2G is more than enough :-)
will there be also a _decent_ omni antenna for LoRa? pretty please! this really matters. the most of the things you can buy from the "regular" places [aliex, banggod, etc] are simply just crap, the resonant frequency is way off. for serious long range usage the proper antenna is a must.

and i love one stop shopping.

Is there a 900 MHz LoRA option expected for North America and other 900MHz ISM countries?

You really really really need to come out with a 915/928mhz version as well. For America Australia and many others. Are there plans to do this? Assuming that there is just a mpci slot inside, even the option to buy it bare and then add in our own 915 Rak card.

A low cost Lora gateway will really take off especially now if people can afford to buy multiple units.

Another vote for 915/928mhz version or at least support 3rd party USB based mPCIe cards that are 915/928mhz.

i just talked to the local distributor in hungary, they already received the price list that includes lora stuff:

R11e-LoRa8
wAP2ND+R11e-LoRa8
and an ~1m long tuned omni antenna for lora

this tells me that availability is pretty much imminent

Thanks

Clearly says that the Lora modem is built in, this is why it's called a KIT.
Also, Lora does not need or even have SIM slot.

I'm also wondering: does the wAP LoRa8 kit includes both LoRa modem + a free pcie slot to put an LTE modem.

This would be usefull to deploy a standalone LoRaWAN gateway without any Wi-Fi or Ethernet uplink, but only 4G/LTE backbone.

the LORA KIT is basically a regular wAP + Lora modem in the only slot.
If you remove the Lora card, you will have a default wAP and you can use a 4G modem or anything else, because it's just a wAP.

So basically if you already have a wAP, you can just buy the Lora card and the Lora antenna separately.

I can see now. I was not paying attention. I thought that this is separate LoraWan project from Mikrotik.

This would be great. To put LoraWan in remote hill and power it with solarpower energy.

Thanks, this is what I though. So in order to build a Mikrotik LoRaWAN gateway with 4G WAN, I'd need to pick products with multiple mini-pcie slots like RBM33G, in order to embed the R11e-LoRa + R11e-4G?

you're right, would be the best choice for out of the box solution! The cost would be 179$ for LTtap 4G kit + 89$ for R11e-LoRA, so 268$ . I was aiming at the most affordable solution which I think would be RBM33G 49$ + R11e-LoRa 89$ + R11e-4G 79$ + generic outdoor case ~12$ -> 229$, but of course with some extra installation steps.

no. as with the ltap mini, the gps is on-board and not socketed. the 2nd mpcie slot is still free. that’s why i suggested back in april that the m33 or ltap (biggie) is the ideal platform for distant deployments.
but if you already have IP on the.site, you might well just buy an m11 and connect it via ethernet, and put the whole setup into an IP67 rated uv resistant plastic enclosure. but even then the wap-r is probably an easier path to go down

Shipping date for MikroTik wAP LoRa 8 kit (RBwAPR-2nD&R11e-LoRa8) is currently set to 11-08-2019 according to my distributor, so I guess LoRa is already available in RouterOS?

It's in the extra packages for 6.46beta44

Is it supported on all platforms? Can I use mini-pcie to usb adapter and connect it to RB3011 or SXT USB port?

It appears to be MIPS & ARM only at the moment. And good question - I can't see why it wouldn't...

Just tested and it works so far with a 3rd party card in a USB to mPCIe adapter :)

Running on a 962UiGS-5HacT2HnT

All seems to be working, the issue I see currently is the US915 channel plan selection only uses sub-band 1. TTN uses sub-band 2 and so far can't see a way to change this in the config. Otherwise the packets it's seeing on sub-band 1 it's passing to TTN.

I really would like to use the lora8 card in a ltap together with the r11-lte but no support for mmips buy now.

When will the lora package be available for the mmips CPUs (ltap and rbm33g)?

I have no insight on their release, I just tried out the LoRa card I had in the RouterBoard I had on hand. I agree the RBM33G board would be a great choice for a custom gateway. Use one mPCIe slot for LoraWAN and the other for the backhaul connection. Throw it in an outdoor enclouser then you are all set.

I was able to resolve the US sub-band issue. Gateway has been receiving/sending packets without issue for days now.

I have RBM33G and RL11e-LoRa8 with ROS 6.47.1 (try a v6.47beta8, and more test, developer) but not working. Not display item on menu IP>lora.
After reboot RB, light on green LED on Lora PCIe card up 5sec. LED off. I try second PCIe slot, no result. Any idea?

The rbm33g works without problems.

Use the right slot for the lora8 cqrd and dont forget to set the jumper for routing the usb 2.0 to the slot and not to the usb connector.

Are you sure that you have installed lora package too? Also note, that lora menu is on its own - it does not hide under IP menu: https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Interface/Lora

Did you ever figure this out Dakov? I can't get mine working either. Tried both slots. Jumper off and on... Not getting anything...

Does any Mikrotik router with a USB port support this dongle? --> LA66 USB LoRaWAN Adapter https://shop.dragino.com/index.php?rt=p ... uct_id=161
I asked ChatGPT and see how he answered the question: List dongle models supported by MikroTik.
MikroTik R11e-LoRa8: This is a LoRaWAN dongle specifically developed by MikroTik. It supports the LoRaWAN protocol and can be connected to MikroTik routers via a USB port. R11e-LoRa8 has a built-in antenna and provides the capability to connect to a LoRaWAN network.

Dragino LSN50: This is a LoRaWAN dongle that supports the LoRaWAN protocol and is compatible with MikroTik routers. LSN50 can be connected to the router via a USB port. It enables connectivity to a LoRaWAN network and can be used to connect MikroTik routers with LoRaWAN devices.

Dragino LG01: This is a LoRaWAN gateway that includes a built-in LoRaWAN dongle. LG01 is compatible with MikroTik routers and can be connected to them via a USB port. It provides connectivity to a LoRaWAN network and supports communication with LoRaWAN devices.

RAK Wireless RAK4270 USB dongle: As mentioned earlier, the RAK4270 USB dongle by RAK Wireless is another model known for its compatibility with MikroTik routers. It supports the LoRaWAN protocol and can be connected to MikroTik routers via a USB port.
Dragino on the site I only found this suitable for what I want to do.
