hEX S
hEX S is a five port Gigabit Ethernet router for locations where wireless connectivity is not required. Compared to the hEX, the hEX S also features an SFP port and PoE output on the last port.

It is affordable, small and easy to use, but at the same time comes with a very powerful dual core 880 MHz CPU and 256 MB RAM, capable of all the advanced configurations that RouterOS supports. The device has a USB 2.0, PoE output for Ethernet port #5 and a 1.25Gbit/s SFP cage.

IPsec hardware encryption (~470 Mbps) and The Dude server package is supported, microSD slot on it provides improved r/w speed for file storage and Dude.

PDF about the RB760igs:

https://www.ip-sa.com.pl/doc/datasheet/hEX_S.pdf

Nice replacement for the RB750Gr3 and I could connect the router directly the glass fiber and do away with the NTU.

Power usage went up from 5 watt yo 11 watt and the PoE OUT is a nice bonus.

There doesn't seem to be a block diagram available for the RB760iGS yet, but I wonder if the SFP has it's own link to the CPU or whether it shares it with the switch chip. With the RB3011, for example, you had to consider which ports to use if you had an SFP installed.

Poe out and support 802.11at/af very good.
and separately big thanks about classic case. Really.
Classic case in grey color look avesome, much better that "new-style" assymetrical tower cases.
@normis, can we expect also PoE verison Hex S with 4 PoE-out ports for replace current Hex Poe with older 1-core mips SoC?
offtopic: can we expect hap ac^2 in classic case like this? :)

How about RM(rackmount) version of Hex?

You could use a tray and put a few of those little rascals side by side. ;-)

Better a frame in which to put up to 3 pieces.

Something like that:

we built a rack-mount kit that accommodates 2 of them and has lights-out to make the link/activity indicators visible even if the devices are tightly stacked on top of each other.

Very cool Normis and co.Deffo gonna use a lot of these guys in the field.

There perhaps any chance we can get USB console ports on these cheaper devices in the future ?
I'd prefer a "real" console but space on the actual board must be a real isssue.

you can use WOOBM for temporary console access, or just any random USB to serial adaptor (using PL2303 or FT232) and routeros will start system console on the new serial port.

Thanks dude , really didn't know about the USB Serial Adaptor/Console thing. Can it also be used to debug or change router bootup or does it only function after ROS has booted up ?

as far as i know it only works if the router has booted up. routeros detects it as serial interface. routerboot is sadly not that smart.

Another shortcoming from Mikrotik!
1. Why use anyone who does not need Passive PoE? Use only 802.3af / at / bt !!!
2. plastic body sucks !!! (this color is excellent :))
3. Why use fucking cheap power supplies in the kit?
Double power is our all

I'm probably the most intelligent :))))))))

VERY much like it, I will wait for definite performance numbers on a WAN on SFP scenario but will probably replace my HeX with for this new one.
I appreciate the sd slot.

EDIT any word on price compared to the current hex ?

I see the block diagram is now on the website. It looks like it works the same way as the RB3011 does, where the SFP, if in use, will have a 1gig lane to the CPU, and the copper ports will have a 1gig lane to share amongst themselves. It makes sense though, with the limitations of the CPU and the fact that the SFP will amost always be the uplink.

If Mikrotik decided to support VDSL SFP modules, then this would be a wonderful CPE device for DSL or FTTH, you could just swap modules to convert it.

Can't wait to see this at suppliers! These would be great for setting up small office or home networks combined with a cAP AC or wAP AC powered from Eth5 and one cable for less than $175USD is great. Charge $300 for a quality centrally located installed WiFi would be good sales opportunity.

Also Mikrotik please get your products all on Amazon with full descriptions and photos, its the best way for most people to buy!

I would like to know if SFP1 can be *switched* with the other ethernet ports. Looking at the two schematics I understand that SFP1 is either disconnected, or connected to the CPU, but never connected to the switch. Am I correct?

Hello, yesterday was delivered new RB760iGS to me. It looks very nice, I like the grey color of this box.
Build quality si good, typical for Mikrotik`s plastic boxes. Reset and Mode buttons are good, you can push them simply by finger, no more sharp pencil needed.

But.... in the box was ROS 6.41.x installed. So I downloaded current 6.42.4 (MMIPS) version, uploaded the .npk file to the root of filesystem, reboot the box and from that, the device is bricked :(
I tried pushing reset for 5, 10, 15 secs, I tried Winbox, Netinstall - nothing helps :( Next step will be trying all the steps again on another Windows computer (with Win7 instead of Win10) and then if it will not help, sending back to distributor.

So be careful with upgrade to 6.42.4...

Hi,

Just a quick note to let everybody know that the minimum factory firmware for this router is: 6.41.3 CURRENT. This means that you cannot currently flash 6.40.8 BUGFIX.

Hope this helps somebody else out.
