mAP-2nD PoE Out question

Fri Nov 02, 2018 5:25 pm

Hi,
I have a Hikvision camera with 802.3af camera, and I need to use that LAN cable powering it to create a wifi hotspot, but I also want to keep the camera using the same cable. I saw the mAP -2n has two ports, and it can be powered by 802.3af , but for the camera,, spec of mAP says that the PoE out is passive POE.. Is that 24V Passive POE? Do you think it can power the camera as well? Camera is using 7W max as per spec sheet and the mAP is 5W so it is still inside 802.3af specs.

Thanks

This won't work ... mAP has passive PoE out which is not compatible with camera's 802.3af (active) PoE in.

You should buy mAP-2nD, an upgraded version with 802.3af support on both ports (ether1 for receiving power, ether2 — for powering other devices).

Map Poe is power pass trough
If you power it with 802.3af you will find the same power on output, and with this low power camera, this should work
Take a look at CAP ac too.....

One thing is voltage ... and most of PoE roterboards are pass-through in this respect. However, PoE protocol (or "protocol" in case of passive PoE) can not be pass-through. I've had a look at mAP documentation and I've never found any claim about 802.3af on PoE out ...

I can confirm this works. I used mAP-2nD to sniff Cisco IP phone which is powered by 802.3af.
