R11e-4G vs R11e-LTE

Fri Jan 11, 2019 4:26 pm

hello all,

new 4G/LTE card was recently announced, R11e-4G and the december newsletter only has the LTE band support information as it's compared to the -LTE card, my question is this:

is there more information on this new -4G card? which LTE chipset does it use? i understand R11e-LTE uses some 'undocumented' marvell chipset, does this new card use same chipset and is simply tuned to different bands or is it materially different?

any info is appreciated, thanks in advance

Did you compare the two brochures? Basically the bands are different, that is all.
What other details do you need and for what purpose? RouterOS doesn't care about chipset. Just choose the one, which has the band you need

i did compare the brochures, of course and other than band information there is nothing there as both of us already stated. and i am also aware the the RouterOS doesn't care

purpose being is my personal curiosity as well as purchase decision making as both cards support the bands required, thus i simply would care to know if it's marvell, qualcomm, altair, intel, etc. as i have an opinion as to which one i would prefer. the cards appear 'visually' different which is the reason why i asked in the first place assuming they're based off different chipsets.

i guess i'll buy both and take them apart and see for myself

thanks anyway

For what it's worth, the R11e-4G appears to be Altair ALT3800-based. I'm guessing that it's being paired with the ALT6300 transceiver in order to support all of those bands.

Although it's too bad that this is CAT4 (in the year 2019), we have deployed other ALT3800 UEs in TDD mode and had pretty good results with them overall, so I'm optimistic about how these will perform. Hoping to run some tests soon.

There is a Cat.6 version of R11e in the works.

Little is known about its capabilities, though.

I'm now waiting its release eagerly, because I need modern solutions, and if MT can't deliver I'll swap vendors for my networking gear.
