Upgrade RouterOS to 6.43.8.
Then in system routerboard -> upgrade firmware -> reboot

Factory Firmware is what was originally loaded at factory. You can ignore this. Installed version is under Current Firmware.

Previously, it could be updated. Also in the new routerboot were made small fixes.

Thanks for this topic. I was completely unaware of this option.
So I have to ask what is the difference between
a. upgrading the firmware via packages and
b. upgrading the routerboard ???

Is it a matter of what happens when you reset to defaults (pinhole reset)? The firmware it defaults to goes to the routerboard current version?

Yes, these are 2 different things:
1) RouterOS update - go to "System/Packages" menu, click on "Check for Updates"
2) Firmware (bootloader) upgrade - go to "System/Routerboard" menu and click "Upgrade"
The version number of Router OS and Firmware is synchronised now.

If we were talking about PCs, a. would be OS (e.g. windows) with updates while b. would be BIOS (or UEFI).

RouterOS depends on properly initialized hardware which is performed by routerboard firmware.

Note that although the firmware version is in sync with the RouterOS version, there are often no changes between versions. It's only worth upgrading if there's a change you need.

Okay let me ask the question in a different way (and as an aside, does mkx troll every single forum LOL), will there come a time where I will be unable to update to the latest package because my 'bios' board version is too old??
