We currently have about 170 Mikrotik RB Metal 2SHPn access points on our network, and now a few RB Metal G-52SHPnac units on site, and we use 10 or so new units a month on new installs or replacements.

I have an "auto-programmer" that I created that sends out discovery packets and if it sees a unit with the default 192.168.88.1 address, it logs in via SSH and programs it to suit our needs.
90 percent of the time, that works great. Get a new unit out of the box, plug it into the network and about a minute later it's good to go.

The other 10 percent of the time, nothing happens. The unit powers up, networking comes online.... and then nothing. Waiting 5 minutes doesn't help. Repeated power cycles, nope. Factory reset - by holding in the reset button, applying power, waiting 5 seconds - is the only thing that brings those units online. Once they're factory reset, no problem.

Has anyone else had units that fail to boot out of the box?
