Difference between LTE products

Wed Jun 05, 2019 5:59 pm

Hello,

I would like to know difference between these three products. I would like to pick newest one with support of ongoing LTE europe standards (that told me in local shop, I just forget to ask witch one it is)

wAP R
https://mikrotik.com/product/RBwAPR-2nD ... ifications
wAP 4G kit
https://mikrotik.com/product/wap_4g_kit
wAP LTE kit
https://mikrotik.com/product/wap_lte_kit

Thank you!

+1

I'd also like to know whether the LTE model really is dual band (per intro blurb) or 2.4GHz only (specs section).

According to specs (and "intro blurb"):
  • wAP R is "LTE ready" ... meaning it's got antenna but no actual LTE card. And built-in antenna is not a great one (only info available from brochure is that it's got max 4dBi gain).
  • wAP LTE kit is the same hardware, but with LTE modem already included.
International version supports LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 20 ... of which European MNOs use mostly 3, 7 and 20, some also 1 and 8 while band 2 is not available in Europe.
Frequency band support for Europe is quite complete, but it lacks a few TDD bands (those are not very popular at this time, but they will see more use in next year or three).
  • wAP 4G kit is the same hardware as well, but with different modem built in. It supports LTE bands 3, 7, 20 and 31 (band 31 is only used in some countries) as well as TDD bands 41, 42 and 43 (bands 42 and 43 might be used by some European MNOs as way into TDD and 5G).
All of them are LTE category 4 (limiting to 150 Mbps in downlink and no support for carrier aggregation). So not exactly state of art modems.

I'd also like to know whether the LTE model really is dual band (per intro blurb) or 2.4GHz only (specs section).
Where in intro blurb for LTE model did you notice mentioning of dual band?

Where in intro blurb for LTE model did you notice mentioning of dual band?
To be clear, I meant dual-band WiFi, not LTE.
Both https://mikrotik.com/product/wap_ac_4g_kit and https://mikrotik.com/product/wap_ac_lte_kit have the paragraph (emphasis mine):
Don’t be fooled by the compact size – this device is powered by a four-core 716 MHz CPU and 128 MB RAM, capable of handling heavy loads. Dual-chain 2.4 GHz and dual-chain 5GHz wireless for dual concurrent AP coverage will solve most interference issues in a crowded environment. For example, you can simultaneously use the 2.4 GHz channel for all your household mobile devices and reserve the 5GHz channel for tasks that are sensitive to packet loss – such as streaming high-quality videos.
... yet the LTE's "Wireless specifications" section only lists 2.4GHz whilst the 4G's equivalent section lists both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz. So which is it? They both support both WiFi bands, or only the 4G does?

Hello,

Using wAP series RBwAPR-2nd LTE router. To get fixed IP address from my mobile connection provider, I must use APN "pro" and dial number "*99#". As I understand from information provided to me, I must configure PPP Client. When I trying to add new PPP-out connection in my WinBox v.6.44.3, there must be port provided, but there are nothing to choose. Actually "Port" is shown in red color. And settings can't be saved.
Read some issues in forum and watch videos on youtube. But all issues and videos created is about USB modem connected to router. In this case there are USB port to check in settings.
But I doesn`t use USB port. Actually there is no USB port on my router. I`m trying to configure router with built in LTE.
Is there my fault and some kind of port must be created by myself? Or settings must be made by code in terminal?

Thank you in advance for helping [/Codebox]

The wAP 4G kit uses this miniPCIe card: https://mikrotik.com/product/r11e_4g
while the wAP LTE kit uses this one: https://mikrotik.com/product/r11e_lte

As far as i know, while the r11e-4g is newer, it is LTE ONLY. As in: it can't fall back on 3g/2g in case LTE is not available or has a weak signal in your area.

Since both cards support a different set of bands, best is to check which frequencies your provider uses in your country and get the setup required for that, keeping in mind that r11e-4g is LTE only.

You can check which bands your provider uses here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_L ... _in_Europe

soon a new boy will join the party:

this is the modem we'll have in the LTE version of audience. this is LTE Cat 6, so will support carrier aggregation.

Sweet, would be interested in testing this bad boy out with networks in UK/Ireland, do Mikrotik allow beta purchases? to help with the testing etc.
