NetInstall -> Flashing with RouterOS 6.45.1

Fri Jul 19, 2019 7:23 pm

Is the Flashing utility still functional with V6.45.1 ?

I'm trying to flash an RB2011 and the Flashing tool keeps on giving an error: "no TFTP Request".
Please see attached PNG.
NoTFTP.png
Is the this documentation correct ? https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Flashfig
Where it says it applies to V4 and not V4+ ... But the doco says that all RB come with flashing enabled since 2010 ...

I've even tried starting it as Administrator, because it seems to listen on UDP:69 TFTP and other lower than 1024 port numbers.
My laptop IP address is 192.68.88.8,
as indicated on the PNG, the RB2011 is 192.168.88.3. The ARP table on the laptop supports this:
ARP -a :
Interface: 192.168.66.8 --- 0x14

Re: NetInstall -> Flashing with RouterOS 6.45.1

Hello Mikrotik support,

Should I re-post this in a different thread ?

I was not sure where to post this. Also, if there's documentation how to flash a config, I could program my own tool to do it. (i.e. What is the compression format ? Do I just TFTP the file over ? Is there a command to issue ?)

Hello Mikrotik support,

This forum is not really official support channel, rather users's chat room with occasional MT personnel fly-by. If you expect response from MT, contact them at support@mikrotik.com ...

When i did mine, it's really, 1 pc, no internet, no router. Just pc plug to the mk router. Then boot with the long press of the button with the corresponding flashing light. or no flash..
then the device will appear in the device list.

Code: Select all

ARP -a :
Interface: 192.168.66.8 --- 0x14
Internet Address Physical Address Type
192.168.66.255 ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff static
192.168.88.3 d4-ca-6d-4a-b0-40 dynamic
..
Review your PCs IP address. It shows 192.168.66.8
Hold the reset longer, 20secs or more.

I had a similar problem trying to netinstall recently - after putting bootloader in netinstall mode it came up with IP, and downloaded the small "flash-OS" image that's embedded in the netinstall program, but after booting that flasher and resetting network ports it was not listening to "start download" command from netinstall.
For me it was solved by switching the laptop ethernet port to 100Mbps full duplex.
No fricking idea why it helped - it makes no sense as link was up at 1Gb and I could see the port 5000 (or was it 4000?) ready-to-netinstall announcement packets from the routerboard, but it did help.
So maybe try.

Thx wrkq, but that didn't work for me
For me it was solved by switching the laptop ethernet port to 100Mbps full duplex.
Tried that, at 10Mbps just to make sure packets were not coming "too fast" for the RB2011, but same result. This time I'm using a newer RB2011 hardware, but same problem with 6.45.1

Mikrotik have reproduced this problem, but they said that it's on the stack of todo, but no release date yet.

Hello,
No, like I previously said - we have managed to reproduce it and it is reported, but currently there are no information in which upcoming version it could be fixed.

Best regards,
Elans L.

Yes that part works... It's the flashing that fails. Mikrotik have reproduced this problem, so it might be a RouterOS or Boot software issue.

What i found for me when I have problems is to put a dumb switch in between the computer and device your trying to netinstall. Also on a laptop, turn off the wireless. Or if you have more than one network interface disable any extras.
