Which ROS devices do you expect the most?

Sun Feb 14, 2021 3:44 pm

I apologize if not the first who write about this.

From myself I will say that I really look forward to:

1. RB4011 (10х1G ether ports & sfp) with USB, microsd and supports LTE6 module.

2. Microcircuit RouterBOARD on ARM platform, like in RBD23UGS-5HPacD2HnD supports 802.3af/at PoE in.

Maybe the representatives of Mikrotik will sound not very distant plans for the development of ROS hardware?

Anything with 802.11ac wave 2 or 802.11ax, maybe a cAP ax?

A CRS326-24G with 4 SFP+ ports. A 16 port ethernet short depth version of the CRS328-24P.

60GHz radios with SFP slots - this should have happened long time ago, even if it's just SFP and not SFP+. Running fiber is cheaper then ever before and solves EMI issues.
WIFI6 - Mikrotik is late to the game and competition is never sleeping

And in general anything that doesn't have flapping ports (just don't use the problematic switch chipsets ever again), stupid hardware limitations (include all available interfaces CPU provides, if it does have USB, at least put header on the PCB or extra miniPCIe slot) and more routers with SFP+ slots (and support passive DAC cables, don't do the 4011 thing ever again).

What I really DON'T want to ever see from Mikrotik are devices with 16MB of flash and limited ram, now that it's clear ROS 7 with wifi2 package will not run on these. It's one thing to announce it will not be compatible with older products... but if any device is announced with these limited specs now, it will be D.O.A.

I would have to agree with what was already said. I am planning on buying a RB4011, but I think MT missed on it. It should of had 10Gb copper ports instead of 1Gb ports. I also think they shot them self's in the foot with the WAP Ac upgrades knowing that they are going to release Router Os 7 with the WiFi 2 software upgrade.

What I would like to see them release....

1) Hex with a SFP+ and 5 1Gb ports,

2) WAP/CAP with a 4x4 matrix, 128MB Flash, 256 or 512 DDR, 1.2GHz ARM, 1Gb or 2.5Gb ethernet port.

3) CRS30X with 5 10Gb copper ports and one SFP+ port. (RB260 Type of switch)

That's easy - SXT R (LTE) with gigabit port(s).

And maybe M.2 slots in all Mikrotik LTE compatible products.

POE devices with powerful processors

Power box Pros or Omnitik Poe's with Arm CPUs.

I don't think that's much to ask for.

+1 or alternatively, CSS610-8P-2S+ which was announced in MUM 2019 Europe

mAP or mAP Lite with 5GHz radio

A 4-ports device with Ethernet bypass

When we have the CRS318-16P-2S+OUT and CRS328-24P-4S+RM could we not also have something like CRS314-12P-2S+IN or even better CRS314-8P-4P+-2S+IN

As the board already seems to exist
CRS308-4P-2P+-2S+OUT
CRS310-8P-2S+IN
CRS314-12P-2S+IN
CRS318-16P-2S+IN

Any of these with rack ears would be good and even better if the smallest one could be powered by POE in which could be put in an attic and take a couple of new wifi6 ax access points and run a few CCTV cameras (seems to be working for Unifi).

LTE devices with m.2 slot and hearpipe...

P.S. Title is bad, right will be "Which RouterBoard devices do you expect the most?"

  • RB4011 version with a propper switch chip with VLAN, MultiCast, QoS snd (R)STP support in HW for the Ethernet ports.
The current version has 10 Ethernet ports what would make it an ideal branch router/switch combo. But any bridge doing more than a dumb unmanaged switch disables HW acceleration.
This makes the high number of RB4011 Ethernet ports mostly useless and requires us to add a seperate switch for wirespeed VLAN and QoS on our small branch sites. Having both in one box would ease configuration and save energy.
  • RB4011 version with one SFP+ port and 2x 2.5 GB Ethernet ports as provided by the AL21400 SoC. This would be the ideal router on a stick device.

I would also like to add WiFi APs/Routers with WiFi 5 and WiFi 6 support. But to be honest, MikroTik is so far behind in that area that we have given up completly on MikroTik for WiFi.
