Routerboard with M.2/5G?

Tue Mar 16, 2021 8:49 am

Hi!
I love the bare form of RB450Gx4 since it allows me to easily add DIN mounting brackets and use these devices in industrial cabinets. Only thing I'm missing is an M.2 slot+SIM card slot so we could install a LTE or 5G card inside too.
I could use another RB model for 5G purposes but for some reason no routerboard have M.2? But optimally I would like a 5 port device like the RB45Gx4 to have it. It would be easy to drill a hole for a chassis antenna connector in the standard CA150 box).
Is there any thoughts of developing new routerboard HW with M.2 slot?

Kind regards
David

It will be and It's done on some PCB of some models.
First one is Chateau 5G who will be for us, end-users in Q2-Q4 2021... and we not know if this new lte modem lines R11mL are at m.2 socket, I hope so.
You can found few posts answers there on few models lhgr/chateau/hAPac3 at PCB are m.2 stop pads, mean a MikroTik will do that units with m.2 socket but we not know when :(
No RoadMap for any products.

Chateau won't work as an "industrial" unit in a electrical cabinet :(

Try do this with it:

Yes, even a DIN mounting 3D parts are only few: https://www.thingiverse.com/search?q=mi ... t=relevant
I think the new KNOT is for DIN mounting but it's IoT BG77 SoC, not a full speed LTE stuff. Maybe a new RBM11G willbe with m.2 slot and DIN Mointing - that unit will be perfect :D

For the RB450Gx4 I use these
https://www.moxa.com/en/products/access ... nting-kits
Screws fits perfectly in two cassi holes, works with only one of the two in the kit but it will not be super stable (you can see in pic 2 it is tilted slightly) but I think it is also possible to mount both in parallel if a rock stable mounting is needed.

For LTE we already have hundred DIN mounted modems deployed (which costed like 8 times a RB450Gx4) but I would like to start exploring 5G connections now that some operators have their 5G networks up but I guess it will be years before there are other industrial 5G modems available. And they are far from as advanced as routeros is so on some sites I needed both a DIN LTE modem and a DIN mounted RB450Gx4.

A new RBM11G would be interesting but it is really crippled with only one ethernet. I would rather see the RB450Gx4 as the base for a new M.2 fitted device
