No POE with split/shared LAN cable?

Fri Apr 09, 2021 7:28 pm

Hi,
We have a building with an older physical LAN installation where 2 pairs of the CAT5 cable are used for fast ethernet by connecting only pin 1,2,3 and 6 while the other 2 pairs are used for analog telephony/ISDN. It worked well for many years, but now that we plan to roll-out access points instead of wired IP devices, I don't get the access points powered via POE..!?

Of course "passive POE" cannot work, but also the mAP lite or the wAP ac which are 802.3af/at compliant don't seem to get POE power from a CRS328-24P-4S+RM if the pins 4,5,7 and 8 are not connected.
On Wikipedia the POE modes which use only 4 pins are listed (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_ove ... et#Pinouts), but on Mikrotik websites I cannot find these POE 802.3af modes mentioned (https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:PoE-In).

I am surprised because I did not have such problems with switches and ap's from other vendors before, but at the moment it seem to me that there is no way to get the job done with Mikrotik...???
Am I wrong or does anyone have a hint or can suggest Mikrotik products which work for this case?

Thanks in advance and best Regards, David
