winbox quick question

Tue Aug 14, 2007 12:51 am

hi,

my situation is i administer a small remote network. i am ready to ship my Routerboard 532a running 2.9.44 to the local service person but want to make sure before sending it that i can connect via winbox from my location. i've been reading the manual and it appears that i should be able to winbox in from a different network as long as i have ping (internet) access.

can someone confirm that i should be able to connect using winbox from a remote network without any settings? if there is something i need to set in the Mikrotik OS before shipping this unit out, please point me in the right direction.

tia,
dave

As long as you can reach the router via IP, this will work.

If you have firewall rules on the box, make sure those don't block you when coming "from the outside", or create an administrative VPN tunnel (PPTP or the like) to the router, or use port knocking, or ...

Apart from that you should be good.
