Firmware upgrade failure.

Thu May 29, 2008 8:50 am

Can anybody throw any light on the following?

[admin@some router] > system routerboard print
routerboard: yes
model: "112"
serial-number: "0EF001DADAA1"
current-firmware: "1.13"
upgrade-firmware: "2.12"
[admin@some router] > system routerboard upgrade
Do you really want to upgrade firmware? [y/n] y
firmware upgraded successfully
[admin@some router] > system routerboard print
routerboard: yes
model: "112"
serial-number: "0EF001DADAA1"
current-firmware: "1.13"
upgrade-firmware: "2.12"
[admin@some router] >

The console reports a successful upgrade from 1.13 to 2.12 but it doesn't seem to have done it.

The router itself is running OS 2.9.51 and had a level 4 licence upgradeable to 3x

You forgot to power cycle your router.

Oh. Right.

So "firmware upgraded successfully" doesn't mean "firmware upgraded successfully".

Still, I suppose Mikrotik would have to pay licence fees to Microsoft if they used the well-worn phrase, "You may have to restart your computer after the update."

I know you have to reboot for an OS upgrade but I'm sure that with firmware upgrades they've gone through previously without one.

Tried it anyway. The router's come up again in that I can ping it and it appears in MNDP but if I try to connect to it with Winbox by wireless the log-on process starts and then I get a message that the server has refused the connection!!! Telnet just connects but then stops responding.

Never had that one before.

So it's a trip out there tomorrow to see if I can sneak in through the ethernet to see what the problem is.

Never a dull day with RouterOS.

Tried it all. Winbox by IP says it's connecting, then I get the 'connection refused message' on port 8921.

Winbox by MAC just timesout.

I was able to MAC telnet into it this am but it was very sluggish.

Will shortly be trying an ethernet connection and will report back.
