Here's some more news from mum. These boards look awesome btw..

new router boards will only work with version 3 due to the new ppc architecture

RB333 has 64 megs of ram, 0-30volt input, 2-3x faster than RB532 at 400mhz

RB192 with 9 ethernet ports and 2 mini pci, rest is same as RB133

new daughter board for RB500/600 series has 16 ethernet ports, don't know if its just a switch or shown as 16 ethernet ports. someone asked the question and their response was "yes".. Will be interesting to see..

2 new in development products but "nothing is set in stone"
RB800 with mini pci express and mini pci slots.. "also will be very fast"
RB400 gigabit ap..

They also mentioned something about some of the new boards using a common screw layout to make things easier for us in the future..

I will try to post pictures of the slides soon as I get a chance.. (leaving for the airport in a few)

-Gerard

But is a great board to "change" the RB600s.

Thanks!

I am not sure what you are looking at. It has never been $440 on our site.

Yes, the Atom is an amazingly inexpensive processor. There have always been cheap PC based alternatives for building Routers but then you are missing the point of a RouterBoard. It is a single board computer made by Mikrotik with RouterOS installed and supported by Mikrotik.

OTOH I would love to see an Atom based Mikrotik designed RouterBoard. :)

Does the RB/800 come with a SIM-CARD Slot to support 3G PCIe Radios?

How about some info on the daughter cards?

Would we see a PCI-e 6 GE port expansion card?

Is it possible to get this Mini-PCIe GPS card to work in the RB800 Mini-PCIe slot? That would be really great !!

First test of RB800 = replacing old RB600+RB604 (8 mPCI modules). Effect? Problems with signal quality, stability of links. Signal's strengh not changed. Any idea? Is RB800 making any RF problems?

On RB600 I had 3.30, on RB800 4.3 is working now.

P.S. On RB800 i have fake voltage measurement: 30,1 V while real voltage on power supply is 27,5 V. This issue we have on RB411AH too. But only when using PoE.

It's a shame it uses a fan, thus we will never buy any.

Fan is optional. We have a RB800 here running bandwidth test for 4 hours, FAN is off. It works fine, although the temperature is a bit high. We changed the heatsink to a little bigger one, and it's now completely normal.

Is that larger heatsink an option?

You should make Fanless as standard. I never would buy a RB for an outdoor AP with Fan.
Fan's are dying after 2-6 years depending on quality, rotation speed and temperature conditions.
So we would have a sure repair outage for every board. Outages on towers are expensive.

this is why the RB800 has four fan connectors, and you can make two fans rotate at the same time, while two others wait to kick in after one of the first two dies :)

Hi Normis,

I have noticed in the bios there are options there to over clock the rb800 to 1333Mhz.

Is this truly possible on this board without damaging anything?

Yes, you can, but watch for stability issues, it depends on your particular installation and configuration.

Hi,

I got a few in the door and very nice performance.

A few annoying things:

- The 16 x 10/100 lan daughterboard is available now, but no case for the RB600 and RB800 for that. What's the timeframe for the case ?

- Supporting a 3G mPCI-e modem with SIM-card slot would have been a very good thing. Maybe a daughterboard that takes the mPCI-e modem and has a SIM-card holder could be provided in time. It would really be nice to have.

Hello Mikrotik Team! I want to link six PtP long distance links in different directions from one top hill remote base station site and looking to buy a Mikrotik RB800 router board for this purpose to link different sites at different locations. But when contact with some disturbers they said that this is an obsolete router board model from Mikrotik and now a days no longer in use in the field for wireless networking. Is it true that its useless after buying this routerboard? Please assist and guide me on this. Any valuable help from Mikrotik expert team will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello BartoszP! thank you very much for your prompt assistance to me. I really heartily appreciate. Actually, why i was looking for RB800 board because it was using four radio cards and extra radio cards on daughter board which seems good option to use single RB with many PtP/PtMP radio links to different site locations. As per my project requirement i need 6-8 PtP long range 15km plus links at differently located remote sites from one base station site. And there is no such RB in the market which can provide Maximum of 8 radio (wlan) links from a single RB such as was available with single RB800. I hope you understand my concern and assist me further if you know such newly launched single RB equipment from Mikrotik as per my intended wireless networking project. Thanks.

The more radio cards you use on one board, the less CPU power you have per card. That affects your radio time.

With 802.11n and ac speeds, you see the performance for each link drastically drop. So to get the maximum performance per link, it's best to use one board per radio card. Using 2 or 4 cards on a RB800 was valid, when 802.11a og 802.11g was the standard used.

By todays standard, I'd use max 1 card on the board to maximize my throughput, especially when using nv2 and other extra features.

I still have RB600 and RB800 boards in use ... they're a good board. But if you're about to buy new, they'd be a bit outdated.
