I'm wondering if the idea of making an affordable RB like RB750 with 12 or more ethernet ports is so crazy or if MikroTik i'ts going to give me that joy in the future? i'm so sick of switches i need a powerfull bridge for my MAN network

Look up the RB1100 in this forum. It isn't available yet, but has been announced with a spec sheet.

Many clients are asking for a 16-port router or more at a price of 8 / 10 dollars per port (such as rb750), this is very useful for various scenarios.

Also clamoring for a rb750g with wireless a / b / g / n onboard.

The rb816 daughterboard ($69) was just released, it will work with either a rb600 ($195) or rb800 ($359) routerboard. The rb600 is now listed as End Of Life, but a lot of Mikrotik distributors still have it in stock, some have it for sale lower than $195.

$264 for 19 ports, $13.89 per port, 3 gigabit ports & 16 100Mbit switch ports. The rb1100 will be $399, $30.69 per gigabit port. At the last MUM they also announced a rb250GS 5 port gigabit switch for $39.95 running their new SwitchOS instead of RouterOS, perhaps they will make a 16 port version in the future.

I know, but that value is close whith a RB600 (discontinued) and it is necessary to add a casing which are not cheap here ... I think MikroTik daughterboard have not had a major commercial outlet, but they are valid option for some cases.

I think that for simplicity would have to be a integrated hardware with 16 or 24 ports, cpu and ram like that RB450G, to achieve an affordable price.

If you just need a powerful bridge, then you don't need a router. Bridges are layer 2 devices. Routers are layer 3.

You are sick of switches. Are you using managed switches.... VLANs? If you describe your MAN then we might know what you are looking for.

What are you trying to do where you need many ethernet ports?

If you just need a powerful bridge, then you don't need a router. Bridges are layer 2 devices. Routers are layer 3.

I think your concept is very old ... nor modern switches are Layer 2 nor modern routers are Layer 3, for quite some time brands leading have functions Layer 3 in your switches ... and Layer 2 filtering on their routers

I think ROS, with your layer 2 filtering capacity (still missing some features, like being able to match by list of mac, ip-mac, etc) is a very good alternative as a bridge, is more can be used in layer 3 filtering using the option "ip filter" in the bridge, although the performance is not the best.

i think that what i'm looking for it's no so crazy, take a RB493 remove the wireless support and add a couple more LAN ports and that's it, the capability of filter rules in layer 2 it's something than Mikrotik can give me and a Managed Switch don't and at the same time i can use layer 3 filtering.
a bridge where i can analize all the traffic that pass through him.. that's priceless folks..
