RB800 Second Serial Port (IDC10)

Sun Apr 18, 2010 5:38 pm

A ribbon IDC-to-DB9M fits perfectly on the RB800 Motherboard. It's described in the user manual. How is it activated? I would like to use it for a GPS input so I can maintain the external serial port for console related issues.

Wait for RouterOS 4.8 there can be added second serial port support.

I'm using ROS 5.0beta1. I would have to go backwards in ROS versions. That being said, do you know if that feature going to added to 5.0beta2?

it will be added in future releases of RouterOS, that includes v5.0/beta
I would not bet my money that it is included into 4.8 thought.

With the installation of ROS 4.8, I have activated the second serial port and now have my Garmin GPS-III providing time data for my NTP Server. This saves the front serial port to be utilizes for console or other use and was a great way to utilize an older GPS unit using an external antenna. Now if I only had a case that would support two serial connectors.. :-) :-)
