RB750 discontinued?

Sat Apr 24, 2010 12:37 am

I haven't been able to get my hands on any more in months.

Every reseller that claims to have them in stock is just selling vaporware, orders are just canceled after a few days due to inability to obtain them from the manufacturer.

wtf?

Maybe it didn't occur to anyone that selling the device for $40usd would cause more demand than MT can handle.

At $40, I wanted to have plenty of preconfigured spares for branches offices, one for each employee that requires remote access, one for each of our hotspots....

I talked these up as being reliable, powerful, and easily replaceable due to the low cost.

The problem is that people listened to me, and believed me, but we can't get our hands on these.

The largest resellers in the US have no idea when these are going to be in stock.

I can't decide whether to buy 750g's at a substantially higher price, or wait it out.

Either device is a bargain, but I can buy more 750's for the same cost, and they meet our needs just fine in most applications.

There was a shortage for the past two months as Mikrotik was not making them.... probably a parts shortage. Then there was the Volcano in Iceland just as they began to ship. Now the airlines are flying again.

Our order is now in the US, has cleared customs, and is arriving tomorrow. I suspect other distributors are getting them very soon as well.

We still have over 100 RB750 in stock and another 400 on the way next week.

Sometimes planning and timing Mikrotik orders can be a complex job.

We received a distributor newsletter today. This is what we have to deal with in order to keep stock flowing.

"due to shortage of some common used components, production of some
items are delayed. For the new orders, we can schedule shipping for
RB411AR and RB450 on June 18th, RB750 on June 30th,
RB750G, RB450G, RB433, RB433UAH and RB433AH on July 9th."

At least they are communicating with us. :)

We spend a bulk of our support time replacing bad routers from Linksys, D-Link, everything. This router would be PERFECT for our customers. But its not wireless. What average customer today wants a non-wireless router? Can Mikrotik stick a b/g/n wireless card in this and a little rubber antenna and sell it for $20 more? You bet. WHY haven't they done this yet???

I agree with this 100%, but I am not sure they are looking at the SOHO business and not sure why.
I am with you though, it seems as internet connections get faster the d-links and linksys are dying faster and faster

I am pretty sure it is in the plans. It just takes much longer when you add the radio because of the required approvals.

USA MUM will be the end of September or early October. They usually time that around new product announcements.

Shit
They come out now with a 411+5ghz radio client, for what?
I don't know why don't put a radio in RB750 and sell million of them.

Since new revisions of RB750 come with a place for USB port I'm guessing the next router will have USB to hookup USB wireless card.
