RouterBOARD R52Hn miniPCI network adapter Antenna Question

Sun Aug 22, 2010 10:32 pm

Hi

RouterBOARD R52Hn miniPCI network adapter has two antenna connectors. Does it mean i can have two antennas one ex. 2.4 and the other in ex. 5.8 ?. Or those connectors are for smart antennas like ex. Dlink SOHO Router 655 Model, has 3 but only 1 send/receive at any given time. Is this the same with RouterBOARD R52Hn miniPCI network adapter?

Or there are acctual 2 Radios in one PCI mini card ? mmmm?

I want to build APoint with 4 radios. So if the card support 2 radios all i need to find a MT Routerboard with two PCI mini slots, That's it right?

Correct me if i am wrong.

Thanks

Nope.

It's two connectors on 1 Radio.

You can use Main or Aux, but not both at the same time.

When you select one, the other will not work.

On R52Hn wireless card both antenna connector are Main. This is only one wireless NIC and you can use only one corresponded modulation and band.

Transmit and receive over two connectors in the same time slots use for MIMO (802.11n ) wireless connection in that way increase speed of data exchange between two R52Hn wireless cards.
There is more information

The dual ports are for MIMO support.

Contrary to another post you CAN use both at the same time, provided they're are in the same frequency as the card is operating (you can't operate in 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz at the same time on a single radio).

To configure the behavior of the antennas you need to set the following:

HT TX CHAINS 0 / 1 / or both
HT RX CHAINS 0 / 1/ or both

0 is the MMCX port in the middle of the card and 1 is on the corner.

It's similar to the ant-a / ant-b setting only you can configure which antennas are for Tx or Rx or Both.

Hi

Hi heard that MIMO antennas can work only 1 antenna at a time? So is this True MIMO, or some other type?

So, I can have 1 PCI network card for Ex. R52Hn ( 1 Radio ) with two antennas, in the same Band but configure to TX or RX or Both?

Are you sure? I hear you can do this with routing protocol OSPF not with actual hardware R52Hn RBoard Wireless PCI card.

How do i configure the Router Board with that has installed PCI R52Hn card? Will this work with statick routs or RIP ( routing Network WISP ) or maybe i can you is in Bridge network As Well?

mmmmmmhhhmm interesting? This is to GOOD TO BE True, You telling me that i can have a APoint with dedicated Uplink and Downlink??????????????????????

Just like that ? without 10000 lines of code?

You have no ideal what advice people gave me to acompish this. And you tell me that you can accomplish this in 2 rows of config file?

Is 25 dbm on the MiniPCI card/radio enough for Mesh Access point? I can not find antenna for mesh for 5.8 Ghz more than 5dbi below 1 foot length?

Or should i get this radio? with high power MiniPCI 500mw. Will this radio work with MT RB? 411 xxx
? and will i be able to configure the RX and TX for each MMC connector/Antenna?

1 More thing do you configure the anntenas in terminal console or in WINBOX gui?

thx
