POE problem

Mon Aug 23, 2010 10:11 pm

I have a customer that lost the POE port on a rb532, so I replaced the board and things seemed to work fine when the POE data port is plugged into my laptop, customers desktop or the ata sip device. BUT! if I plug the data port into a switch the POE starts blinking.

I tried other cables, POEs and switches but I still get the blinking.

I am going to plug in another board inside to see if it's the Cat5e cable that runs to the top of the building.

anyway, I just wanted to see what you guys think it could be.

I plugged in another RB with a short patch cable and it did not blink, So I've replaced the Cat5e running up to the rb532 and it's still blinking.
I guess it's another bad board.

The next step is to replace the board again and if that doesn't work I'll be dropping in a NSM5.

On RB532r5 burned one of this diode ( D23 or D24 ). Replace diode or look for fast ethernet swich where RX TX pair are not DC shorted. Is it ether1 working on this RB?

Yes ether1 is working. as long as one device is plugged in and not a switch. I tried plugging it into a dlink switch and a rb750g and they both make the POE light blink(short).

Mostly this diodes burn together with PHY ADM7001 after lightening. Some times burn only one of this diodes. Take multimeter check resistance between 1,2 pin and 3,6 ping if it's 150ohms or more - this swich can work. Or replase burned diode with any new 1A 100V schottky diode.
