RB751

Wed May 18, 2011 12:37 am

Saw a post on this product early in the year that mentioned April 2011. Is there any updates to its release date?

Thanks

Few weeks passed, so let me join to the group of people asking the question 8) :
Is there anything new known about the RB-751 devices? When will they be ready? What would be the cost (approximately)? Are they still "almost ready", or has anything changed? :)

Any updates on this? We want to roll out a managed router package with our customers and this would be a great router to base it on. BTW - will it handle metearouter?

I hope so, Are anymore specs available yet? Memory & metarouter support are what I'm looking for. I have BIG plans for this product if I can get it programmed the way I want.

It's on roc-noc.com now. Not in stock yet, but it has a price of $89.99 for the non-gigabit one. Yikes! That seems a little high to me, but it is a higher power router I guess. I was hoping the gigabit one would be around that price though.

Edit: It says on the product page that the pricing is just a guess, so I guess we'll just wait and see!

I was always talking about an announcement. Not when the end user will hold the unit in their hands. Sorry, hard to predict that date exactly. Depends on shipping times etc.

When you announced "plans for making it", in the PDF doc, availability stated: next month.

Maybe you should skip availability predictions until you're sure.

I'm sure that's not true. When we announced RB751, we said "june" and that was in March. But it doesn't matter, you are right. We missed our promised date. I'm sorry about that, and I hope that you will be able to order this product this month

Yeah, me too.

We were talkin to our clients about 751, and it seams it will be a very popular product.

Both us and them are waiting for 751 to hit the market, and it's a bit annoying explaining to them that the product publishing is postponed over and over again :(((

You mean with something like a USB->Serial adapter? I'm pretty sure that is not currently possible. Drivers for all of the popular USB-Serial chipsets would have to be compiled into the kernel for that to work.

the most important part is that your antenna needs a straight MMCX connector, angled connector won't fit!

when talking about antenna shape - anything will do, something like this (standing, or suction cup) is more practical:

I'm still waiting for RB751, but I can look for something like this antenna now (or check if Alibaba sends here to Slovakia). It seems that external antenna with cable is needed? Nothing to plug or screw directly?

alibaba is not a shop, they will not send you anything. it's a catalog of manufacturers.

Well, I will find something here then.

Let me ask one more question: RB751 has two antennas integrated using two chains, right? (something like SXT) What will be happen when I connect external antenna? Both of internal will be turned off? Or one of internal will work on chain0 and external one on chain1?

no, this will replace one of the internal antennas. you will still have two chains, one internal, one external.

Well, but what about Tx power? Internal antennas have 2 dBi, so I may use 25 dBm of Tx power to get maximum power allowed here. Let's say I will connect some external 13 dBi antenna - I would have to lower Tx power to 14 dBm, so internal antenna will be practically "invisible". Or is it possible to set Tx power for each chain separately?

The mount holes are 70mm (2.75 in.) apart with 6mm (1/4in.) diameter head size.

It is not a great picture and 1.5MB but you asked for it.

Now I'm looking for an omnidirectional antenna cca 8-15 dBi - something like normis has mentioned (http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/37948 ... tenna.html), but with straight MMCX connector. I can't find any. Has somebody found some?

you can also use an adapter to extend the connector, or to convert it to SMA:

Having just received the RB751 today (200 pieces :)) I am very very disappointed to see that the MMCX connector is useless with Right Anged MMCX connectors, which I would say most if not all people use.

I haven't ever seen a straight MMCX connector before (I have after googling it) however if the connector was just slightly further exposed this wouldn't be an issue.

In my opinion this is a serious design flaw.

We will now have to source new MMCX cables SOLELY to use with RB/751 (and for our customers)

So anyone wanting to use an external antenna, start sourcing your new cables.

Good to hear normis.

Small Hack for anyone who can wait for fixed board, not the prettiest but for our own use its fine, and no need to order new cables if the design will be changed.

Removing the sticker shows an array of breakouts, I assume for future versions

when I said "we always keep improving our products" you thought it was just marketing-talk :) ?
haha, we have seen the constant improvements with RB435G, RB750GL, RB1200, SXT, OmniTik and Groove in the last year, so Mikrotik are proving it is not just about "Marketing-Talk"

The move to Solid Capacitors is a great decision, and I am sure will please many users.

I for one am looking forward to future RouterBoard product announcements.

Any notice about CE Certification (EN 55022 class A) ?
I received this from Mikrotik on Sep 26th.

"More units to EU distributors we will be able to send in ~three weeks, when CE DoC will be ready."

Tom
I've heard there are some problems with CE certification. Is it truth?

Why there is a MMCX connector in RB751 instead of RSMA? (size, price, ...) ? I think that RSMA is more usual. IMHO, nice product. Looking forward for RB751G.

RPSMA is an inferior connector to MMCX, MMCX is a MUCH better connector.

I would suggest for every 751 in the field in an office, every 3rd or 4th would pop connector in a month of two in an office where the router is in an area where people move/use the area. MMCX is will never disconnect, and with lower loss.

You mean with something like a USB->Serial adapter? I'm pretty sure that is not currently possible.
It is possible. At least some of the more popular USB->Serial chipsets are supported by RouterOS. I just tool a PL2303-based cable, plugged it into my 751U, and saw it show up as a port under '/ports' and it let me configure a console on it under '/system console'.

This, of course, only gives you an OS console, and not a boot loader console.

Is the CE DoC for the 751U-2HnD already issued? I need it badly.
