Speeds slow with RB532 to RB750

Tue Aug 16, 2011 10:26 pm

When I run a speed test from the RB532 to the RB750 I am receiving bad results. Tried switching from ehter1 to ehter2 on the RB532 thinking it was a bad port but still getting the same results.
Has anyone seen this issue before?

Bandwidth Test from the RB532 to RB750: 1187.6 kbps/4.4Mbps

RouterOS 5.6 is installed on both units.

Are you running a bandwidth test THROUGH the routers, or are you running bandwidth tests with the bandwidth test server and client running ON the two routers?

There's a huge difference in just routing/bridging packets, and generating/terminating them.

I am running the built in test in the OS. I tried to eliminate any routing issue by assigning non routing IPs to both ports and testing it. They are not on a bridge.

If you're using the built in bandwidth test server and client then you're not really testing throughput, you're testing how fast the RB532 can generate packets.

Take two clients (two laptops or something) and put one behind the RB532 and one behind the RB750, download the Mikrotik bandwidth test utility for Windows or get some other tool such as iperf, and test between the two laptops. Then you'll be testing the real throughput THROUGH the routers.
