poe failure or ??

Thu Sep 01, 2011 5:30 pm

I am tyring to power on two mikrotik routers by using Poe injectors cables but none of them is powered on. Both devices can't power on from the Poe injector.
If I plug the power supply into the router directly and a utp cable into the Poe port the rooter is working fine.
I plugged a utp cable into the injector and the injector to my computer and the utp site of the cable is working.

So there are two scenarios:
The power supply side of the Poe injector cables isn't working or the Poe ports on both router aren't working.
Both scenarios seems to be difficult to be true because they can't have the same problem in two different devices or in two different cables.

The devices have been worked for some days. I tried to establish a wireless link of 6km. I was getting poor signal and i have shut them down. There were 5 months installed but without power. Now i tried to troubleshoot the network and establish the link but on both routers i am facing this problem.

what RB are you using. I have several RB411 that are dead. But if you look at the lights they all light up if powered by poe. But they don't boot. no ethernet or console output. But I have one that is dead by POE but works fine if powered by onboard power connector.

see if you get any lights and try onboard power connector. I use 24V.

i have one 411u and one 433ah.

both of them aren't responding at all when I plug the poe injector. No leds no nothing but If I connect the power supply and the utp cable without the injector they are working fine with all the leds.

I assume that something else may happening because the some problem in two different devices at the same time is very rare to be possible.

all materials are bought from a local distributor and they seem to be original parts.
Also there were working for some months now so I think that they are suitable.

You used the cable wrong. The end with the female plug should have the cable attached that is bringing power to remote device. You plugged the short male cable in the device but that doesn't carry power.

First use common sense: If it doesn't work this way, try the other way around.
Second use imagination: If this setup should work, it means the power shot cable has to be fit in a box in a mast near the CPE since the cable is only 15cm's long. And than you need a power wire running up the tower. Wouldn't make any sense at all isn't it? PoE is invented to transport power over the utp cable over long distances. Your setup would disregard this invention completely!

this is why i like this product more:
http://routerboard.com/RBGPOE

it is clearly shown where power comes in and where it goes out.
