Hopefully this will inspire someone to come up with a PoE-Out solution..

Actually I successfully modded an OmniTik to PoE-Out on ports 2 to 5.

It is notable, that the PCB already is prepared for PoE-out, so all you need to do is to short-circuit some contacts with wires.
Unfortunately I cannot do photos of the mod, because the OmniTik is being used on a tower :p

Anyhow, I took one of the images above and painted how I did the wiring.

Please note that this is a very simple PoE-Out hack.
Any overload will cause a shutdown of all connected devices including the Omnitik itself.

Thanks sup5. Looks simple enough. Actually I only need 1 or 2 PoE outs.

One question, are you bridging pins 4 & 5 together by soldering the wire across the two pins?

I really don't remember anymore, whether I shorted/bridged pins 4 & 5. It depends on the PCB.

Just take a Multimeter to test whether the PCB already has pins 4 & 5 shorted.
If this is the case you don't need to short pins 4 & 5.

Anyways it won't hurt to short circuit pins 4 & 5 :p .

BTW.: This mod also applies to the RB750 :)

I've just tried bridging Eth1 pin 4&5 to Eth2 pin 4&5 and you're right, it does power the device. I powered an RB333 plugged into Ether2.

However I noticed that it only links at 10Mbps. It tries to negotiate up to 100 but by the time the 333 boots it is linked at 10Mbps FD. Other than that it works fine.

Are you seeing this too?

Hi andreacoppini!
Do you mean that you power two RouterBoard using one single Power Supplier?
what is the Voltage and the AH?

Yes, I only used 1 PSU + 1 PoE injector to the OmniTik. I did this test using the normal power supply and PoE injector included with the OmniTik. I made sure all wireless interfaces were disabled to minimise the load.

As janisk mentioned, you would need a bigger PSU (more Amps, same voltage) to run more devices.

Obviously, doing this voids your warranty.

I wouldn't try this mod on a gigabit capable device.
This mod will destroy the gigabit capability of your routerboard.

Reading the power ratings of the PSU, which was shipped with the omnitik:
24V 0.8 A = 19.2 Watts

This means the PSU of the Omnitik should be able to drive a Omnitik and two RB-SXTs or two RB711 without any hassle!

MAX around 7W if not mistaken

that is, both chains, 6MBps data rate = highest power usage.
