Recover SXT from Firmware Update Failure?

Wed Oct 26, 2011 4:36 pm

Is it possible to recover a SXT which did not successfully upgrade its fimrware?

Mine does not boot - no beep...

On a "normal" RB I would do this via Serial Console and Netinstall.

How to do it on a SXT?

Kind regards

In the PDF quick guide of the SXT: http://routerboard.com/pricelist/downlo ... ile_id=266

you can read how to start Netinstall boot mode:
RouterBOOT reset button (access through the plastic door) has two functions:
● Hold this button during boot time until LED light starts flashing,
release the button to reset RouterOS configuration (same result as with reset hole)
● Hold this button during boot time longer, until LED turns off,
then release it to make the device look for Netinstall servers

normis, I have the same problema with RB750GL and I´ve tried the above and it didn´t work.

the PXE server works even if the routeros does not ?

I tried to downgrade the version 5.7 of one RB750GL to the 4.17 (stable) and the RB now is just a normal switch with no acess to the RouterOS.

Could you help me? there is another way to reinstall the 5.7 version?

Thanks!

Netinstall always works, unless hardware doesn't power on. It is possible that you missed some step, or your connection to PC is blocked by antivirus. Exit all programs on your PC, disable Firewall, antivirus, and microsoft defender. Run Netinstall with "right click" and choose "run as administrator. then plug in ethernet cable from PC to RouterBOARD directly (no switch in between). Make sure you use the FIRST port on the RouterBOARD if you have many. Then follow above instructions about booting with button.

I have 2 SXT that seems that the Routerboot has been corrupted, it only beeps once.

I used NetInstall on it and everything looked ok, but when its done, it boot up and just beep again only once.

I had one SXT that by pressing reset once while the first beep was on, it continued to boot but if you rebooted the SXT it will hang in the first beep, so i charge it the FWF and downgrade routerboot, and then was fixed.

Its there a way in the SXT to upload the routerboot?

After i send this post i came up and tried one last thing, and for my surprise it WORKED!!

I create a file called " upgrade.rsc"

and i wrote in it:
/system routerboard upgrade
and save it, and then i put the SXT as NetInstall mode and on the Netinstall settings in the "Configure script" area, i choose the "upgrade.rsc" i just made and when netinstall finished it stuff, the SXT was rebooted and completed boot sequence successfully!!

I hope this could help someone to debrick your device in a similar scenario.
